Just a random poll about two of my favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy authors.
C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien were actually really good friends and members of the informal literary group the Inklings. Both were Christian men, but with a marked difference: Lewis' stories are are heavily based in allegory, as seen in the parallels between Narnia and Christianity, and the stories of the Oyeresu in Space Trilogy, whereas Tolkien's are not, at least not intentionally. Also, Lewis' stories are much, much shorter.

I'm a bit divided on this, because I'm talking about two of my favorite series of literature, as well as some other fantastic stories. In the end, I'd probably have to go with Lewis, simply for his allegorical touch, something I always enjoy.

I'm going with Tolkien for this, mainly because of the more mature and serious tone he uses. The stories C.S. Lewis writes are good, but they're a little too focused towards people younger than me. As a note, though, this is based mainly off of the Lord of the Rings books and the Narnia books; I haven't read the others.

WarpStarFerret : I suggest you look into the Space Trilogy: Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, and That Hideous Strength. They're a great deal more mature than Narnia, especially the third.

Narnia movies were amusing, but they can't even compare to Lord of the Rings. I never read the Narnia books, but I did enjoy LOTR books. Tolkien wins.

I didn't vote because I enjoyed reading both author's works. My vote goes to both. I should check some of those out.

Tolkien. Much like him, I hate allegory. Also, props go to he that created an entire world just for the languages he created.

I have to go with Tolkien here.  I'm not saying Lewis was not a great author, but it's almost unfair to compare the two.  They could really easily be sub classified into epic fantasy, and young adult fantasy.  Tolkien's world  and characters have inspired a generation of fantasy writers and fans around the world, where as Lewis's work was just a really good story.

I'm not talking about the movies, I mean the actual authors here:

I have to choose Tolkien because he is my favorite author of all time. His work (not just Lord of the Rings) is not only beyond amazing, but it has a very special place in my life and who I am as a person, and my relationship with my father. I will always keep that with me.

I really enjoy C.S. Lewis as well, but it's just not on the same level for me.

tolkien i would say, iv never actually read the lord of the rings books because i got bored with the first one, but undoubtably he put a lot of effort into them.
The narnia series in terms of books was decent, although far too basic, and the movies, well the movies sucked hard i think, it was almost sad just how terrible they really were, so much more could have been done.
Iv never read any of lewis's other books.

Whoever chooses tolkien over lewis.... is a true fan of middle earth. Tolkien created a world like no other that captivated us and drove is into an insanity for more with his books. Lewis created a book series that was good, but the only famous one was a book about kids going into a closet and finding a magical world. TOLKIEN for me!
