Well I'm not entirely sure if there has been a thread like this. Anyway, has anyone got any stories to share of friends/family (or even friends of friends) who survived a disaster?

Here are two from me

From the floods that hit QLD a few weeks ago:
I happen to live on a hill, but the bottom part of the street we live on got flooded. There was about 4 houses that went under, which is amazing considering the day before it was just a small creek that ran along the bottom of our street.

From the cyclone that hit QLD yesterday morning:
A friend of a friend had lost all the contents of her house due to flooding, but the house was ok. They had to be evacuated due to the cyclone and when they went back the house was completely gone except for her toilet.
