My favorite character ever has always been Garret Jax, the weapons master from The Wishsong of Shannara by Terry Brooks.  I loved this guy!  He was basically just a man, no magic powers or talismans.  Yet he was all but indestructible just because he was so fast and fearless.  It took a demon from the underworld to finally take this guy out, and even then it was a draw.  This being the same kind of demon Alanon died fighting, and had said was indestructible by normal means.  I would also like to throw in the dark elf Drizzit do'Urden as a close second.

Hmm...good question...

For pseudo science fiction, Clarisse McClellan from Fahrenheit 451...she is a stand out character in that book's world and one I find very intriguing. Technically also science fiction, I would have to take...pretty well any character from the Destroyermen series...there are so many excellent characters I simply can not choose one.

For Fantasy...*frowns thinking* I don't read a lot of Fantasy so i can't really think of a standout character off the top of my head. I tend to read more sci fi than fantasy.

It's hard to be to come up with a "favorite" There are a ton of Sci-books that I have read with great characters. Right now, I think I would go with Fahrenheit 451's Guy Montag.

My favorite Character from any Sci-Fi book would probably have to be Norman from the Michael Crichton book Sphere. He is definitely one of my favorite characters of all times just due to the fact that he is a psychologist and the way he is throughout the whole book.

It has been quite a while since I have actually read Sphere, but he is the character that sticks out most to me while reflecting on the reading of various Sci-Fi novels throughout these past few years (the range at which I can actually remember somewhat clearly what I read).

My favorite sci-fi character is technically from the cyberpunk genre, Hiro Protagonist from Snow Crash. From fantasy, that would have to be Rand from the Wheel of Time series, at least right now.
