Ok, as many of you are, I'm a music lover. I love classical to hard rock, I play many instruments, I can cry from listening to an emotional instrumental piece.

I'm looking for a band to fall in love with again. I fell in love with The Beatles like 6 years ago. Last year it was Muse. There always seems to be a band that I absolutely love that is new to me, exept now. I still discover new bands weekly, and lately I've been into Blue Oyster Cult and Genesis, but nothing like I've had for Muse or The Beatles, or Hans Zimmer. I need a fresh amazing new band/artist.

So, who here can suggest a band that is very creative; that are deep in melody, but still have a catchy sound. Mixtures of two or more of these genres: Prog rock, classical, metal (not insane though), new Prog, alternative, pop rock, space rock, even techno. Just something good and not cheep formula!

well.... I think your requirement of "Just something good and not cheep formula!" is excluding a lot of reasonably good music....

but I guess if you're looking for a band to obsess about then the easy formula stuff isn't what you want.

I would suggest things.... but most of what I enjoy right now falls into the lazy music category.

Haha... Well some would argue that the beatles were just lazy pop music, but I think they're crative and heck. You can give it a shot If you'd like .

One of the bands I think are great is Crush 40. they make some Rock/Hard Rock type of music for the Sonic games. They are awesome

Some other bands I would suggest are Queen, The Mega's (A band that have made music inspired by the Mega Man games), and Boston.

yeah... people can argue all they want that the Beatles were amazing... but if I wrote 200-300 songs I would manage to land some hits too

anyways.... some bands/groups that I've really enjoyed a lot over the last few years and recently are:

La Roux - new, kinda techno-y.... I like it.
Hawksley Workman - sort of folksy with a lot of jazz influence in it.
Cheryl Cole - I know.... total pop singer right? (if you know who she is) I really enjoy her music right now
Crystal Method - more techno but it's some of the best stuff out there.
Metallica - if you aren't already a fan.... you should be. They've made some awesome albums.

I know that is kind of a random list.... but I could put all those into 1 playlist and enjoy it all I'm weird like that though

A band that I would suggest is Stolen Babies. Their sound is pretty creative, they somehow manage to mix cello's and an accordion in with a metal style (not heavy) and make it sound good. Their lyrics are pretty original and actually written by the band members.
Here's their single off their album There Be Squabbles ahead
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHDhA35KR_I
and here's something more mellow and my favorite
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbEcdyU6qRA (ignore the crappy amv that goes along with the song. I couldn't find a version that wasn't live.)

Ok, I have a lot of suggestions. I love music.

Arcade Fire- SUPAH alternative, not really like anything I've heard before. Manages to mix a rock tone with techno/trance stuff, pretty nice.

The Black Keys- A blues-rock group. Don't be turned off by their genre though-they freaking rock. Try listening to Howling for You. It may not be your tastes (kinda slow), but it's really good.

Bloc Party- An Indie-Rock band. They have a lot of talent (although they've been on hiatus for a couple of years), and they have a couple of songs I LOVE.

MGMT- New Age stuff. Really awesome. You might have heard them on the radio before, they're pretty popular. My favorite song from them is Kids.

Rise Against- IF YOU HAVEN'T CONSIDERED THE OTHER OPTIONS, CONSIDER THIS ONE. These guys are alternative/punk. My favorite song by them is Give it All.

Wolfmother- Really good Australian Rock band. If you want to try and demo them, listen to The Joker and The Thief. That's my favorite song by them.

I've enjoyed Tool a lot for the past few years. Their songs just don't get old for me, and the songs I don't like so much start to grow on me after a while. Plus they've been working on an album that they're hoping to release sometime this year.

I highly recommend the band Wintersleep. All of their stuff is pretty melancholy, but it's really meaningful, at least to me. If you search for them on Youtube you'll be able to find most of their songs. I can't recommend any certain song since they're all really great.

My friend introduced me to their music a few months ago, and I thought it was so amazing I went out and got both of their CDs within a few days. I don't usually get CDs, so that's saying a lot.

If you do check them out and like them, please reply to my post and let me know...

Thanks for your suggestions everyone! I will have simply trying a few a few songs from each new band mentioned.

MegaRevolution1 : Crush 40 is actually pretty good. I like video game music in general, so video game rock song complete with lyrics was pretty fun. I'll probably put a song or two on my iPhone. Not that original or deep, but not bad. Queen is an old favorite, definitively very creative and talented, that's more my type of music. The Megas are also super fun! Who doesn't love megaman music? It's actually pretty humorous; the videos are awesome.

geeogree : Hawksley Workman is new to me. But I'll listen to more to them, they sound good so far! (and these guy definitively aren't simple formula )Thanks. Metallica is an awesome band, ya I'm already a fan, haha. Thanks

Zamiel : Now Stolen Babies is pretty cool stuff! I'm not a very big fan of female singers for some reason, but I really like the strings incorporated in it! I love fusions of classical instruments and modern rock. Now whether or not I'll listen to this regularly I have no idea; we'll have to wait and see. Thanks

the_casualty : Yay Canada! Yes, I've herd the Arcade Fife, they are good. The black keys, Hey now this is an other good band I've discovered today. I love blues you see. These guys are definitively going on my playlist! I really should listen to more MGMT as I've only heard a few a songs. I do find they lack in inspiring melodies, but that's just me. Rise Against is a little too... "simply punk" sometimes. I think I learn to like the more though. I LOVE Hero or War, I always have. Wolfmother remind me a little of an artsy White Stripes. I actually like them quite a bit! Thanks.

pi0x : Man, I haven't heard of Gorillaz in a while. This particular song is pretty groovy! I think I'll download a few of their songs to chill to.

soxfan849 : I think Tool is one of the most talented metal bands out there. But their sound is slightly boring to me, as creative as it is. But good suggestion.

Annette : You can always spot the Canadian! I live a few hours from their home town, and I've seen them live. The are very melodic. Even though I find them slightly too mellow at time, there's a few songs I really like! Orca is my favorite! Weighty ghost played on my cities radio stations constantly last year. Haha.

Thanks a lot guys, I have a lot of listening to do.

My suggestion to all of you in return is..... As I've stated before: Muse. One of the most versatile bands! An example of their Prog Metal. An example of their Classical/Space. They have everything in between, from Pop to Funk to Opera (in the same song!).

Also Globus. There genre is Epic Rock (must be listened to with good speakers or headphones to appreciate all the instruments).

yeah, Hawksley (he's the lead singer ) is definitely unique. You won't love everything he does.... but give it time and it'll grow on you.

Well I'm glad you enjoyed them even a little. They need to send me some merch cause of all the people I get listening to them lol

I've heard a few of the Muse's songs before, I liked them but I've never really remembered to grab any of their music for further exploration.

I liked the Globus song. I'm big into the chorus/orchestra rock mix. One of my favorite bands of that genre is Epica. The lead singer is a trained opera singer(female...I love lead female vocals lol) and they consistently use orchestra's and chorus's in their songs. You may or may not like them seeing how you don't care much for female vocals and the fact that theirs a guy usually backing her up with some guttural singing/screaming (it creates a weird kind of harmony since Simone, the lead, sounds so...heavenly I guess lol).

Oh and another band I'd recommend is Apocalyptica. They're a metal band consisting of three/four cello players and is a great mix between classical sounds and rock. If you look up any of their songs I'd suggest Hope.

Someone beat me to Apocalyptica and Epica, damn!

Well, other than them...

Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, Blind Guardian, Dream Theater, The Scorpions, Symphony X, Rhapsody of Fire, Sonata Artica, Van Canto (a capella metal band), and Kamelot.

Edit: Dark Moor, Angra, Avantasia, Iced Earth, Iron Maiden, E.S. Posthumous... honestly, create a Pandora account and create a station based off of any of these bands and you will find a huge wealth of amazing groups.

You might want to listen to Coldplay if you don't already. I think they're classified as alternative, but they have their own very defined sound.

Seems like you already have a pretty good list going, but here are some recommendations of my own! Some of these bands aren't very well known, but I think they deserve to be! (Expect this to be long...)

Alternative:
-They Might be Giants: great stuff but a little quirky too. Strange and funny lyrics, a variety of music styles ranging from rock to kids tunes(which are also pretty awesome), these guys have to be considered one of the most unique bands out there. I basically grew up listening to them, so I guess I'm a little biased, but I'd definitely check them out.
-Kagero: A little independent band from NY, these guys are nearly unknown but shouldn't be! The main part of the band is made up of the singer/guitarist, the bassist, and their violinist. Sounds weird, but it's actually very cool and fun, and they cover a whole variety of folk and alternative styles. They aren't very well known yet, but I've seen them perform live a few times, it's great for dancing! Definitely check these guys out.

Rock:
-Creature Feature: Falling under "horror rock," Creature Feature loads their songs with references to classic horror movies, and many of the songs have a darkly humorous edge to them. Although the band does use plenty of synthesizers, most of it is great rock and clever lyrics. Fun stuff, even if you aren't a horror fan but still have a secret morbid side!
-Billy Talent - well, if you love oh-so-generic punk rock, these are the guys to look to. It's about as full of generic teenaged angst as you can get, but at the same time its VERY catchy. I enjoy this band a lot, actually, but it's definitely NOT a unique band. Not my highest recommendation, but still good if you just wanna blast your brains out with some loud music!
-Frank Zappa: Zappa is great, funky, and weird, but a lot of people in my generation don't seem to know him, which is a damn shame, . He was a visionary, extremely eccentric, but also bat-s**t crazy. I love Zappa, but not everyone gets it. Hell, I don't get it, but I still love it. I guess I would describe it as rock, with some amazing guitar solos on the part of Zappa, whacked-out lyrics and some funk influence to add a little zest, but even that doesn't fully explain him... besides rock, he also wrote classical too! He was really incredible. Great stuff, a must-listen IMO!

Other: Just some odds and ends here...
-Jonathan Coulton: Best known for writing "Still Alive" for Portal, he's mainly a musical humorist, but also has some surprisingly melodic songs. Falls somewhere in the pop-rock genre, but really enjoyable to listen to.
-Reel Big Fish: I think these guys are classified as ska or swing or something, not sure, but you gotta love a good brass section. Catchy and fun, they've covered 80s hits and have plenty of great original music to boot! Good stuff.

That's it for now, hope that you like some of my suggestions

My best friend loves Creature Feature. I haven't heard much of there stuff, but I giggled at what I did hear... loved A Gorey Demise.

Also, loved They Might be Giants. I remember a few of their songs being featured on Tiny Toons when I was a kid... Istanbul and Triangle Man.

Elara : Yeah, Gorey Demise is one of my favorites by them, it's actually the song that got me interested in the band in the first place. I think my personal favorite has to be Buried Alive, though. It's probably their most melodic song so far, and it's completely made up of references to Edgar Allen Poe, and I love me some Poe But they only have one CD out right now, which is a shame, since I'd love to hear more.

Ooooh yeah I remember those cartoons! Those were great! And two great TMBG songs too! When I was growing up, I stole my parent's tape cassette (geez, cassettes. Now I feel old) of the album with those songs on it, Flood, and basically listened to it incessantly. Love love love these guys!
