I would definitely get rid of Spanish.

I would probably get rid of P.E. I mean, I understand a health class, but really, why do I need to spend WASTE an hour a day to learn skills I already know?

I would eliminate English. I don't need to waste my time learning about my own language and how people spoke centuries ago.

A few years ago, I would have said Spanish, but I've come to realize that every subject is important. America is becoming more and more Spanish-friendly. In the coming years, people may need to know how to speak Spanish just to be involved in society. It's the sad truth.

PE is more of a scam to make sure everyone gets exercise. Unfortunately, many people need that scam.

You need English so you can know how to write. Writing is imperative in college and you can't make it far in life without a degree anymore.

History is somewhat necessary to understand politics. Science has its uses too.

WarpStarFerret : Math is the last subject I would ever drop. I aced Calc I in high school and I'm taking Precalc (as a refresher/requirement) and Calc II this year. It's fun. Besides, you need it in almost any career now. Pick any type of math and I'll explain how it can be used in the world.

I vote Social Studies class. I have a bad memory and social studies is all about memorizing dates and special events that occurred within the world. I always wanted time to fly by when in this class.

Social studies is only about memorizing names and dates because our education system is failing to teach it properly.

Honestly, I would not get rid of a single subject, not even home economics, because every subject has an importance. Math, Science, History, and English are the core classes that should never ever EVER be touched other than to improve them. Physical education, while tedious, is often the only exercise that teenagers get, and it teaches teamwork on many occasions. Foreign Languages I honestly feel need to become mandatory, like it is in college. We are a part of the world, and not everyone in that world speaks English. However, the majority of other countries in the world have mandatory foreign language classes because they realize that to compete in the world economy they need to be able to talk to people. I also think it should be expanded... most American schools offer Spanish and French, some offer German. I think that we should offer all three as well as languages like Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, and Russian.

Elara : Agreed. My school offered French, spanish, german, russian, japanese, mandarin, cantonese and korean and i thought it was absolutely fantastic. I took 2 years of japanese and spanish, but stopped going to that school in grade 11

Elara : I started living on my own at 16 due to problems at home. I couldnt balance school and work, plus i was living on the otherside of the city so circumstances effectively ended my highschool career.

Akuhyou : Ah I see, so you just got your GED and got out of there? Sucks that you didn't get to finish your language classes. How much do you remember?

YourMajestyKen : You know, I used to think that too. However, I realized something (okay, my professor enlightened me). All of those dates, names, and whatever are not important. There's little reason to know all of those specific things unless you're a teacher or you're writing a factual based essay or something. The purpose is to teach you to learn from the past. After a while you come to realize that history repeats itself and only the names change. The same goes for many of the other subjects as well. In mathematics, who cares about if a=b and b=c so therefore a=c? It's all about teaching you how to break down a problem into its simplest form and finding a solution.

I believe Spanish class would have been my answer to this question. However, it's only because of my bad experience. It's not that I don't want to learn Spanish; I really want to learn. I just believe that being in a classroom for 40 minutes a day for two years in high school is not the best method. It pains me everyday not being able to understand what my friends are saying about me (jk).

Elara : A decent amount, basic conversation (if that)... not so much spanish though. I still try to practice as much as i can, but it doesnt happen as often as i like, life has a way of keeping me busy. I would like to continue learning i just need to find a class somewhere

Spanish if illegal imagrants want to come here they should learn English not the other way around
