Negative Calorie Foods

There are several fruits and vegetables that occur in nature that while they have calories when consumed, are said to actually result in negative calories or a calorie deficit after digested. According to this theory, these foods cause the body to extend more calories to digest than contained in their nutritional content. The result would make them zero calorie foods after digestion.

If you believe this theory, then these foods can basically be consumed without feeling guilty. They are healthy and provide nutritional content your body needs, but they do contain calories. Keep in mind, also, that even according to this zero calorie theory these foods only have this negative calorie effect when consumed without extras added to them like butter, sugar or dips.

Negative Calorie Foods
Asparagus
Apple Beet Cranberries
Broccoli Grapefruit
Cabbage Lemon
Carrot Mango
Cauliflower Orange
Celery Pineapple
Chile peppers Raspberries
Cucumber Strawberries
Dandelion Tangerine
Endive
Garden cress
Garlic
Green beans
Lettuce
Onion
Papaya
Radishes
Spinach
Turnip
Zucchini

I often tend to include these foods in my diet, but am thinking of eating nothing but them for a week or more, what's your opinion?

I used to think that, but now I think it's more likely to be pseudo-science.

I'm sure there may be a couple that may do that, but only when eaten raw. In today's society, almost nobody eats there onions raw.

Now as for celery, I used to believe that junk about it (but that chewing uses more energy than it gives), but now I believe the only way it could turn out negative would be to exercise/ move around afterward. Digesting wouldn't use to much, even with it's fibers.

And can guarantee that Grapefruit and Strawberries and Pineapple are not negative either. If they were the 5 fruits a day or whatever would be pointless because almost all of the fruit would only hurt you.

That doesn't seem logical, you eat to get calories so you have energy. Theres no point to negative calorie foods.

I never eat zero-calorie foods intentionally. I eat whatever I want usually I'm pretty healthy though.

I don't know whether eating only them for a week would be a good thing. But then again, I have no experience in the matter.

Wow, I eat a lot of the foods on that list. The point of eating food is to get calories and nutrients... and I hope to do both with food. Apparently, you're only achieving one (nutrients) with those types of foods.
