You heard me right. I have finally found a full-time job. I've been unemployed or part-time employed for the last 2 years now and it has been tough. Manageable but tough.

However, over the last 2-3 months I have been in negotiations with a company that is looking at succession. This means that no only am I getting a job but I'm buying into this company and becoming a partner in it.

The company itself is focused on online/distance education primarily in the oil and gas industry. I live in Alberta... we sort of thrive on the stuff . It has been around for 28 years and has a lot of potential to grow now that some new/young blood is about to join in. There is also a new product line that has been developed that we're going to be part of launching which is super exciting (to me at least.... many of you guys wouldn't care ) So I would become a part of helping companies set up online training databases and eventually set them up so they can do certification for equipment online instead of in a classroom.

Anyway, I'm not going into too much detail because I'm only starting to learn what my job description is going to entail but I am excited about this. It's been a long time coming.

The down-side will be me spending less time on vizzed soon. I knew it was coming eventually.... it had to, but it'll be tough.

Oh, I don't officially start until Feb. 15th because the current owner is flying down to Texas to get started on the newest project he's got going and then he's going on a cruise . I could get used to stuff like that

In all seriousness, congrats, I'm glad to hear you have a job now. That is most wonderful news for all of us... I think =D

We will be sad to not have as much time with you on Vizzed, but presumably you wouldn't have to leave staff or anything right? We'd hate that, but are pleasantly surprised you got this great opportunity. Keep us posted =)

I won't have to leave staff. Requirements to be staff are really pretty low. I can still contribute in my position without being here as much as I have been.

And no you can't have a job . I'm not hiring any of my friends to work for me. That's just asking for trouble.

Good to know you wouldn't have to leave. Without our little green blob this place would be more boring.

fair enough... I will have to relocate though. The job is about an hour and 15 to an hour and 30 minutes away (depending on traffic and weather) and for the first month I'm going to commute it.... after that I should be able to work from home until the lease on our current place is up and then we'll likely either move closer to the business or move the business closer to us.... a lot is left to be decided before that happens though. Even if the business moves closer it'll still be 30-45 minutes away unless we move as well.

The money is gonna be good though. I might take the donations lead pretty soon .

Congratulations Man, in an economy like this where jobs are scarce I am actually glad to hear that God has blessed you with a Job this is a pretty good way to begin 2011 in the first month, i wish you all the best with your new job and in this year 2011 i wish you great tidings!

Thats some pretty cool beans dude, man so much time w/o steady work must have been a struggle.

Congrats geeogree.. although I don't know you its always good to hear of someone going back to work in this economic climate. It struck a chord with me also cause my sister is living in Alberta with someone working in the same field you are.

Also I thought you were going to work on becoming an accountant or does this job involve accounting?

JigSaw : that's what we were doing up until just a few months ago. That job allowed us to save up enough money to move away from that job but still survive (my wife was still working and I was "staying home with the kids")

This job will involve some accounting.... and I will likely handle all of that. But it's not a large enough business that it will likely ever require me to only be doing accounting. But a lot of business owners start out as accountants and then move on to owning their own businesses.

I found out about the job through a sort of friend of the family. He's known my parents for about 30 years (or more) and he knows my wife's parents for a while too. He was in touch with my step-mother-in-law (which means I have 2 mothers-in-law ) over this last summer and found out I was unemployed and decided that he wanted to get into contact with me and see if I might fit in with his vision of his company. We've been meeting/talking for the last 4-6 months about this so it's been a long process.

Congrats geeo I want a job, I need some money. Get me one. Noooow. Just kidding, but congrats again.

"it was pretty good. Pretty overwhelming to be honest. I already got to be in on 2 conference calls with a client and a COO (chief operating officer). I also found out that I'm going to take over managing an entire software line and I'm going to be both running it and I have to come up with a business plan to push it so that it can completely cover my salary and related expenses. And that is just my first day I've got to look through about 10 company files which means reading contracts and e-mails and what not and formulate projections on what this product line will do this year and into the future. I'm slightly overwhelmed It's good though. I finally feel like I'm putting my degree to work."
