What do you think of the new 2D games?

A few of the Nintendo games have gone back to their 2D roots. Super Mario Bros Wii did it. Now Sonic Colors and Donkey Kong Country Returns are out. A YouTube user recently made a video regarding whether people thought Zelda would be the next in line for a 2D game.

Does anyone have any opinions on these games or any similar ones?


I was skeptical when Super Mario Bros Wii came out, but it still did really well. I think it even rivaled Super Mario Galaxy when it came to ratings and reviews. I haven't played that game or Sonic Colors, but I do have DK Country Returns. The controls are only a bit more advanced than the Super Nintendo games. The biggest difference is that Donkey Kong can hit the ground to stun enemies (like in Super Smash Bros). I am only up to the second world and I love the game. I think they need to be very thorough with these games because a slight mishap could leave reviewers saying that it's no better than the counterparts from years ago. Even if it's based off of old gaming, it should still feel like a new game. Metroid would probably do well with a game like that.
