Years back, my wife use to hate when she had a technology problem or couldn’t remember how to do something. In fact, when we first bought our hp, she wasn’t very happy with the whole thing because everything was “backwards” and she couldn’t find anything. She would avoid asking me to show how to do something AGAIN because of my “attitude” and how I did things. That was 3 years ago. Today is much different. I have learned to be patient, not sigh heavily (that use to drive her crazy) and take my time. If I don’t have the time at the moment, I say so, help out and then, when there is time, get her to show me what is frustrating her. It works the same for my children (well, most of the time. Now is a learning experience, how? we both help each other and learn from each other which make a lot of sense, this work for me however so you can tell me what you think.

Yes, when we help others it not only raises our self esteem, in fact, research shows that those who demonstrate more of an altruistic social interest tend to enjoy higher levels of mental health.

That was more sciency, but yes it is correct, It helps us mentally when we help others which is always a plus sign.

It depends, really. If you help someone and they treat you like total crap afterwards, then no it's not worth helping someone. But if they're good people who don't just take but also give, then yes, it can help you.

Once I helped this guy named penutbutta on the old freerider 2 forum (the good where i was the third highest person!) with a cyber bullying problem. All I did was find out his password(he posted it somewhere) and change it. Ever since that we were tight until they changed the site, now theres no forum.

I am a believer in karma (or whatever you want to call it), if you help others achieve their goals you will bring positivity and happiness into your life, and can more easily achieve your own. If you help others it makes you feel good, and contributes to better mental health and a better social life.

In a lot of cases you get back what you give. However... I think it's important to help others for the sake of helping and being kind, NOT because you just want to gain something for yourself. That is selfish and defeats the purpose.
