Chances are that Schala wasn't ever going to be playable (even in the Prerelease), since she (I mean, her sprites) are compressed, just like all NPCs and unlike all playable characters.

Right... If you look closely, all playable characters have 6 frames of walking animation, while NPCs have only 3. There WERE overworld sprites of Gaspar, so we think he was slated as a team member at one point, probably joining just after Crono revives.

But yeah, I'd pick Schala...just 'cause she's that stinkin' awesome.

I can see Crono's mom as a hidden character though...her weapon would be a frying pan!
