280 posts in the past 24 hours, this is the lowest it's been for months and kids have been back to school for almost a week now. I think there's more to this than just that.

Perhaps it's low morale? Like, I know leggy left for a week to try to get his itch to post back, and posting for me isn't as fun as it used to be. I mean, I made over 2,000 posts in three months, and so did leggy and a few others, it wasn't that hard to see coming.

I have a theory that I won't state publicly and I have another theory that I've seen posted here 3-4 times at least....

"Factor 3) The Chat Rooms. I'm surprised no one has mentioned this factor yet. The chatroom has been booming with activity lately. Wether it's spammers, trolls, the normal chatters, or newbies. There have been a ton more people in the chatroom than there are people posting it seems. The forums are like classes at school, for example. You don't really get to free talk during those (classes) threads, you gotta stay on topic. And the chatroom is like lunch/recess/after school, you get to talk to who you want with whatever topic you choose. Which basically explains why more people spend more time there. "

Big Fat Cat, the_casualty, and jmc1097 are basically the main base of posting, with their sprees, they got banned, legacyme3, myself, and few others didn't really want to post as much because of that, which is kinda resorting in the departure of legacyme3, who needs a vacation from Vizzed, and says he might not return to staff. Well the chat room is only a fraction of the problem here. I remember when geo, david, and DH posted like 50 times a day now its down to like 5 posts for them. I use to post around 30 a day but now I'm down towards 2 posts a day So I think the real problem here is people are just not interested in posting as much as they use to be (that mainly goes for older members).

Another reason why could be your absence, even though you are on at times your not on as much as you use to be so that might contribute to some of it.

I'll pick up my posting as much as I can. I really could do 20-30 a day without much effort. It's just so much easier to answer questions in my ask anything thread and not do anything else

The truth is that we all see each other not posting and comment about it, when we ourselves aren't posting much either.

part of the problem is that activity tends to trend in the same direction.... as fewer people post, fewer people want to post....

it works the other way too.... once activity starts to rise it seems to consistently rise because there are more places to post and more activity going on.

Hopefully the activity that me and sept have created will stick and we'll keep a 500-700 per day average.

I found a reason to keep posting, so until this fountain wilts I am gonna roll with it. If I can spend an hour of my day posting then I can get a lot of posts.

I'm sorry. I blame myself. Once I get back to college next week, I'm sure that I'll seek refuge again. I have a good feeling that very soon (possibly one week or so) posting will be back to normal.

I've definitely noticed less posting. I would blame it partially on people not making as many threads. I've done a few posting sprees lately and I've noticed that there aren't as many threads available that I haven't already posted in. If there aren't enough new threads, then people won't post as much. My last posting spree took a lot longer because I was running out of threads to post in because I didn't want to revive too many old threads. Totts probably helped with increasing posting when she made all those threads all at once. I think people need more threads to post in.

It seems to me that activity has gone up a little bit since last week.

septembern : Well it's gone up a little but that's probably because I made people aware of it.

Here's the things I think factored into low posting:
1. Less people making threads (such as Totts)
2. A few of the active users were banned a while back and never got back to their old posting amount
3. Chat Rooms
4. Holidays (though they've been done for a while so that's no longer an excuse)
5. Staff members posting less including myself

Well, people s are starting to post a bit more now due to the holidays being over and what not.

Maybe to help the posting get a jump start back into place, we should have a new VCS? I forget the exact month of when it took place, but I know it was a while ago. Posting contests are things that could drag the post count back into place. We can see that from past experience. If we can't start a VCS now, then making some other new posting contests would also be a good idea.

Its really hard to be consistent with posting. I blame it on the recession. Less money in the pockets, more time working/going to school = less posting. Less posting creates less posting.

DNG : Yeah in a sense it's a recycled cycle.

I recently started online classes so most of the time I spend on the computer is in class.
...and here lately I've been spending my time on Vizzed playing PacMan.
