It seems that they are paying a good sum to the people in the area, and to the American government to clean up, so I think they have done an ok job in that area.

I just think that these companies should be more responsible. How a huge company with THOUSANDS of scientists working for them have no better ideas on how to cap their wells then the handful they came up with is a joke.

I don't think that BP would be able to sell their company (as they are in huge trouble, they might be able to sell it for $1 like Newsweek), so that wouldn't work. I think they should keep operating, but only to pay back the massive debt they racked up.

That being said, no I don't think they should be shut down. They have been paying the people who live in the effected area a good sum of money. They are paying for their mistake, and as long as they keep it up, they should be allowed to rebuild themselves.
