This thread is for anyone and everyone who has a PS3 to discuss the various challenges of it’s web browser. Do you feel that the web browser needs to be upgraded and even perhaps integrated with a major browser program (I.E Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, Apple Safari etc.)

One thing that particularly annoys me about the current browser is the lack of plug-ins which subsequently limits what sites you can go to and such. This is particularly frustrating when you are looking for a internet stream of a sporting event for instance and the site you find it on will not play on the PS3 browser due to applications that the browser does not support.

I have also noticed recently that the browser tends to freeze up while in use periodically… I would love to see Sony work out a deal with Firefox as I feel it would solve many of the problems that the current PS3 Web browser faces.

How do you feel about it and what troubles if any have you experienced with the PS3 Web browser?

I have mixed feelings about this, as it is already cool enough as a feature, among all the other PS3's capabilities. However it is not a must for me, because I would rather use a computer for web browsing. Keep in mind Wii has one, and has even less plug-ins as far as website content goes. Yes it has froze for me, but again I would rather just use some other device. There are other things I would like them to implement before an improved web browser.

UserMike : Well from what I know per a good friend of mine the Wii uses a version of the Opera browser… My main source of annoyance when it comes to PS3’s browser is as I said when I use the browser as a means to view webcasts of fight cards that I am covering. It is a great alternative to be able to pull up a stream of a card via the PS3 and watch it on my “32 Sony Flat screen considering that I have a bad back and some of the cards I cover can average depending on the amount of bouts and duration of each bout etc. about 4 to 6 hrs depending.

In circumstances where I know it will be a long card I enjoy having the option of being able to watch on my flat screen where I don’t have to sit behind my desk for x amount of hours. In regard to plugins there are a couple of sites that I use which use particular types of players that without the necessary plugins is inaccessible so it would be nice if there were an upgrade that would allow for more capabilities.

I rarely run into that problem though most of the cards that I cover via internet streams take place in Europe so often times I have a couple of options as far as which sites to go to for access but, there are the rare exceptions where it is only exclusive to a particular site. So in those instances it would make it easier for me if there were more plugins.
