SunflowerGaming : I’m loving my Roku player. It’s a lot smoother than my Netgear player. I’ve had it for almost a full week and the only thing I wish it had was a YouTube app. Beyond that it pretty much has a great variety of things including a live stream of Wealth TV which isn’t offered on many cable or satellite providers. One of the reasons I decided to finally buy a Roku was because Wealth TV does a lot of Boxing and obviously access to it means I can cover more stuff. It also helps that I’m only paying $10 a year for the channel. In the words of Charlie Sheen Winning! LOL. The Internet radio apps aren’t bad either.

I spend a lot of time on Netflix, VuDu and Hulu so I’m with you there. I spend so much time on Hulu watching shows that I don’t put on my DVR. This comes especially handy now because the MLB Playoffs are going on. As I’ve said before my DVR usually consist of sports mainly Boxing cards that more often than not I cover so anything I can use to help me save DVR space I’ll use so long as it’s affordable.

Singelli : I have heard that a lot of people use streaming players and subsequent services as an alternative to cable. I can certainly understand that given the economic recession and such. What I like about streaming services is most of them are either charge a low monthly subscription fee as Netflix and Hulu does (I pay $16 a month for both.) or a service like Vudu or Amazon which I also use that is pay as you go but in the case of Amazon since I am an Amazon Prime member I can access a bunch of free content.

I am a long time DirecTV subscriber. I love DirecTV but I admit that it can be pricey especially in my case seeing as the sport I primarily write about is televised via Pay-Per-View so I use streaming players and services as an addition but don’t blame people one bit for using them as an alternative. Hopefully the economy will fully recover sooner than later and those of us who are looking for work will be able to improve things for ourselves. I know I would love to be able to make steady income.

tylerflynn : Yes that is something that I love about Hulu. With the exception of CBS shows I can pretty much find most recent TV series on there. It’s very good for me seeing as I am a writer and I am now trying to attempt to finish school finally. It makes it easier to just pick a day when I’m not doing much to just sit back and get caught up on everything.

Far as YouTube I use that a lot for research as I’m working on material or for just plain nostalgia. I have also recently learned that I can use YouTube as a resource to learn math so that is another reason to like it. I just wish my Roku player had a YouTube app.

From what I read Roku had an unofficial YouTube channel but Google forced them to take it down. Hopefully they will negotiate and will bring YouTube back. Like I said I’ve only had Roku for about a week and that is pretty much the only draw back.

bvd1022 :  We were paying for both ($16 total) before money got a little TOO tight. Since then my husband has got a job, but we simply haven't the need to renew our subscriptions.  However, money is not the only reason we forego cable.

It seems like there is nothing good on TV anymore (not within times you can actually watch it anyways.).  Besides that, the commercials are getting longer and longer, the material in those commercials is getting less and less morally based, and .... well it's not worth it.  If I can get the shows I want WHEN I want them, for free... with very few commercials?  Well then I'm just jazzed!

Singelli : You’re not the only one who feels that TV has gotten a bit stale. I’ll gladly sit back and watch hour after hour of 80’s and 90’s sitcoms myself. One reason beyond that I was born in the 80’s that I’m into 80’s culture and nostalgia as much as I am is because it seems like everything was better back then. I know I’m probably biased because I am old enough to remember what it was like in the 80’s but compared to now it the 80’s were better in almost everything movies, music, TV etc. One thing obviously that the present generation has is advanced technology but I couldn’t tell you ten music acts from today and for the most part with very few exceptions it seems like sitcoms have taken a back seat to reality shows.

I don’t know if it is because I’m getting older or what have you but I think they should bring back sitcoms as a predominant fixture on television, specifically sitcoms that had a lesson in their stories. I think it is one thing that is sorely lacking in today’s TV. Although I am a fan of Gordon Ramsey’s shows and use to watch a couple of the reality shows on VH1.

Far as money being tight, I can relate believe me. My father has been out of work for almost two years and it hasn’t been easy for us. Really makes me wish these politicians would stop fighting with each other and do their jobs to get the economy back on track. I know that I would certainly appreciate the opportunity to make a steady living off of my writing or at minimum a good steady data entry job that I can telecommute.

I do, I prefer it because I can choose what I want to watch I don't have to scroll through a bunch of channels to see that nothing it on and just watch something I'm only half interested in. I have a website where I watch my Pokémon, Digimon and I go to youtube to watch other shows or Google tv shows to see if I can find a site with episodes on it. Speaking of I know that I can watch them on youtube (probably all of them) but youtube has been kind of laggy on my computer lately and I was wondering if anyone knew where I could watch Gargoyles online? I can't seem to find a reliable website for it, if not it is cool I will just tough it out on youtube.

XxEzraxX : I’ve heard of Google TV. I’ve heard that it is basically a streaming player and is thus in competition with Roku and Netgear. Maybe that explains why Roku doesn’t have a YouTube app currently. It’s a shame because PS3’s YouTube app is great I just need to buy a new HDD for it (HDD got corrupted after a firmware update.) Hopefully I’ll be able to do that when I can afford it and hopefully it won’t cost me too much to install or maybe I can do it myself.

To be honest other then the time I spend on Vizzed I haven’t been watching too much of my streaming services lately nor have I been writing very much. Part of the reason for the inactivity in regard to my writing is because I have had computer trouble with my main computer but also I have been spending a lot of time lately trying to re-learn Math and learn things that I didn’t even have access to when I was in school. So far I think I have made good progress for someone who is not mathematically incline and hasn’t done much in terms of doing math problems without a calculator in many years.

I just need to keep at it and keep focused on my eventual goal which is either a high school diploma or a GED. One way or another I am going to overcome it this time. Far as streaming I have spent a lot of time on Roku over the last week or so when I’m not trying to re-learn math. I have nothing but good things to say about it I just wish it had a YouTube app. I was browsing the channel store the other day and they had a channel in there that was strictly Anime called Timeless Toons which is a channel you have to pay for but it supposedly has all the classics on a 24/7 stream. I also noticed that they have crunchyroll as well but I’m still new to Roku so I’m not 100% on all they have to offer yet. If anyone is thinking of getting a Roku I highly recommend it. I just wish Google would make a deal with them so we can have YouTube I’m willing to pay for it if need be.

Yes I watch tv shows, live sporting events and movies on Veetle, love the fact there are no commercials
I plug in my laptop to the tv via a HDMI cable and watch it in HD
Going back to watching normal tv makes the adverts stand out even more

Destifen : I wish I knew how to hook my laptop to my television so I would be able to watch and perhaps even record sports streams of the fights I cover. I normally rely on my PS3 for those events despite the fact that the PS3’s browser is badly outdated. I am hoping to get a new console by the new year if possible. (Needs a new HDD for my current console.) For now if cards aren’t picked up by one of the networks here in the states that I can either access via traditional means or on one of the networks that is currently on Roku I have to rely on my computer or my laptop.

It is still much easier to do my job when things are normal than it would be had I been old enough to write in the 80’s even. As much as I love my favorite decade I will freely admit that there is no way I would be able to keep an eye on pretty much 90% of the sport of Boxing on a global scale if I didn’t have the internet. Back then Boxing was more visible on broadcast television than it is now but I still would have be limited as to what I can do and how I can do it. I do have a soft spot for typewriters though.

bvd1022 : I used to hook up my old laptop to my old tv with a scart to s-video cable
I find it a lot easier with the HMDI cable and the quality is far superior
I use the extended second screen option which means I can still surf and play games on my laptop while the second screen is showing streaming tv shows or movies
Check your laptop and tv screen for sockets to see how you can connect the two
I have to say it is very easy with Windows 8

Destifen : Ahh. Seems a little too high tech for me. I do what I can in regard to hooking stuff up and such but it can be difficult sometimes because I’m disabled. I know there are some that aren’t fans of streaming especially when it comes to sporting events but like I said it makes my job a little easier when things are normal. I wish the Roku had a browser. You can’t have everything I guess but it would give me another option at least. The good thing is a lot of the international cards that I cover are being picked up by Wealth TV here in the states. I pay $10 a year to access Wealth TV via the Roku so I’ve been pleased. I just wish you could record off the Roku. You’d think that you could seeing as it’s a competitor to cable/satellite that you would be able to.

EvilAlu : Oddly enough because I cover a lot of Boxing on the international level and particularly enjoy covering what goes on, on the British and commonwealth levels I have grown to like the presentation in terms of how they cover Boxing over there on television. In terms of the television in the UK beyond sports I have occasionally watched Law and Order UK and use to watch Mr. Bean when I was younger. Mr. Bean may not be everyone’s cup of tea but I think he’s hilarious. I have also seen some of the things on the BBC (What they show on BBC America) and when I run across things on Youtube and such. Hopefully I’ll be able to go to the UK one day. It’s something that’s on my list of things that I eventually want to do.

I watch TV online every now and then.  I use Netflix and watch popular TV show.  It's nice to use since you can watch TV whenever and where ever you want to.

Nope I have Cable. However, I am pretty close to just getting rid of Cable and sell a couple TVs and just watch Netflix. I just feel there is nothing good on TV today/nowadays. Dang I sound like I am thirty when I say that!

DJ2536 : Netflix is definitely a valuable asset. I have had it for almost two years now. I love it. I pretty much have the best of both words, streaming services and a satellite dish but if I can’t find something to watch on my dish I will definitely be able to find something on the streaming services.

supercool22 : I’m not really a fan of anime per say but I do enjoy it on occasion. I believe Dragon ball Z is on Netflix. I’m not sure but I think I have come across it a couple of times when I scroll passed Netflix’ anime section. Of all the streaming services Netflix has the best overall selections although VuDu and Hulu are slowly catching up.

BluemageKyle : Don’t feel bad I am old and I say things now of days that I thought I would never say when I was younger. I have both satellite and streaming services. I have about four or five different streaming services that I am subscribed to including Netflix. I also have subscriptions with Amazon, Hulu, and VuDu. It really is the best of both worlds.
