-a blue hedgehog.

-Mario's enemy -selling games wise- (has been like this since he came out)

-his name is sonic because of how fast he can run

His first game was probably the worst of the first 3 in my opinion, but I really like the series before 2006 Sonic.

I agree with jmc, the next couple sequels vastly improved upon the level design and so forth, therefore making them much better games overall. Still a quite solid platformer though, succeeding in introducing the blue hedgehog.
