Hey all trying to partition my hard drive to install Ubuntu Linux on my computer dont know how much space i should allocate for it and need some advice for good windows emulating programs something like Wine, and also looking for a form of photo shop for layout design let me know if you can help. Hopefully i can get a step by step thanks guys

I'm do not know much about python and only a bit about Lunux, however on the netbook I'd say most any drive size would be enough.

As for the partition, it would depend on how big the hdd is in the first place. If it's a smaller drive 10 or 20 GB should be plenty, though I'm not sure what size the programs you write would be, I'm thinking that would be enough. You could probably go with even less, but you would have to really watch what else you install in the linux partition.

Some advice I would give you though is that partitioning tends to hurt performance, having a separate drive for linux would be best, but if you don't intend to do any resource intensive computing (like gaming or editing movies) then you should be fine partitioning.

Well the netbook im looking at has a 160gig hdd and i was thinking of doing 60gigs for linux cause thats way more then enough and still plenty for the windows partition and thanks for your input

Should be plenty, keep in mind it's not actually 160 GB more like 145 or so. And with Linux you generally want a swap partition (at least that's what I think it's called) and it's generally 1 or 2 GB.
