I've watched a lot of tv recently and many are about aliens visiting Earth for some reason. I started wondering if you think it is likely that aliens will ever visit us or maybe already have.

well, if you believe what people say then they have been here for 50+ years.

And if you believe some people aliens have been visiting us for thousands of years.... maybe were even the reason why humans managed to evolve and become as intelligent as we have.

I doubt aliens will ever visit this planet. They'd probably have to have really advanced technology (such as being able to travel at the speed of light). Plus, there's other planets in the solar system, so why would they pick this one to come to?

Well you have to look at aliens in a resourceful way. Why would they come to earth? Why not? Our planet is obviously the most unique in our solar system, it has all the resources that they might desire. And since they live on a completely different level of thinking then us their objectives are a lot different then ours. They are probably more interested in us then we are in them depending on who you are. They might be after resources or control of planets.

It would be stupid for aliens to not visit earth considering how alien we are to them and our surrounding planets.

I personally believe aliens have been here a long time. For all we know they are the ones who created religion to divert us from our original creator; them. Religious people wont like that but its a high possibility that is true considering all the crazy crap that was built and happened thousands of years ago. Since I've only been on earth 22 years it would be foolish for me to deny their existence on earth or dismiss them completely.

Biggest key here though is domination. Us humans like to take control of objects, territory, people, even animals do it too. So you can bet aliens are doing the same thing except on a much higher level with religion being one of their walls for imprisonment. No offense to religious people but that is how I see this world its all about control through politics, religion, government and media

No, not really. I do believe we are not the only smart guys on Universe but I can't see why aliens would waste so many resources to came here, take a fly, be seen only by people who believe in them already and just go away. I mean, traveling through Universe is really expensive and, I believe, dangerous. Even if they don't use any kind of money they would have to make use of a resource of some kind to keep voyages on. Not to mention the possibility of aliens lives loss

So, if they had such technology - and considering we don't - they would be far more advanced than us. What kind of interesting could such a highly developed society have on talking monkeys like us but slavery or amusement? What could we possibly teach them that they would not know already? I don't see any practical purpose on visiting us and don't make any kind of contact. Would we do it, would we spend billions only to pay a visit to a very distant inhabited planet? It just makes no sense for me. And even if they are doing so, they've been doing it for about 50 years and yet, no contact. Haven't they learnt enough? So advanced and so slow...

So, I think that what really happens is that humans have a very high regard on themselves. It's something like "we are so important that even societies developed to the top wish to learn with us." I think that when aliens pay us a visit we will know

The definition of an alien is something that does not originate from the area. Therefore, if an organism came here from a meteor (like say, a fish or something) they would be an alien. We could be living around aliens and not even know it.

You can see how humans and other intelligent organisms on earth live. They conquer. Like JS said, the only reason they would really come here would to be to take us over.

Also... just think for a second. We can't assume that aliens will think exactly like us. They most likely will not figure out space travel. Supposing earth is the only place abundant of fossil fuels, they wouldn't even be able to fly into space at all.

So what I'm saying is most likely not.

It could happen. There are infinite places in this universe. I really don't think were alone. They might not be what we picture as aliens, they might be really advanced humans living on another planet. Who knows...

iceape8 : Yes, I do believe in aliens and I also believe they were in existence longer than any organism or element on Earth. They have been here to planet Earth and all throughout the galaxy I would imagine. There have been alien abductions in almost every country (not exactly) but there has been.... I don't mind aliens, as long as they don't steal ALL our resources.

Not sure. I don't really think it has happened yet, but who knows about the future. Plus, our view of "life" is so limited, that even if we get near an alien, we might not be able to see it or classify it as something alive.
