I'm a HUGE MMA fan... I've seen every UFC pay-per-view since UFC 114 (123 is tomorrow night), instead of paying $45 to sit at home and watch them there's a theater like a half hour away that shows it for $10 per ticket... Hope Rampage knocks out Machida and Matt Hughes chokes out BJ Penn tomorrow night!!

If I had to choose a few favorite fighters...

Brock Lesnar is definitely my favorite, even though he was just beaten by Cain Velasquez and has gotten a lot of ridicule for it.. (Watch the replays and see if you can count how many times Cain hit him in the back of the head... But that's a different discussion haha.. No need for arguments)

I'm also a big Randy Couture fan, Georges St. Pierre fan, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson fan, and more... who do you like?

As far as a favorite martial art/fighting style.. That's a hard one... If we were talking about stand-up I would probably say kickboxing is my favorite (there's something about a fighter that can win with a big punch or headkick either one that I like) and if we were talking about ground styles then I would say I really like wrestlers... Seems to me like they have the most pure skill.

Hopefully there are some other mixed martial arts fans on Vizzed and we can keep this thread going!

I'm honestly not a huge fan. I'll watch MMA if I have nothing else to watch but I don't follow it and I won't spend money on it either.

I don't see the appeal of watching 2 grown men punch each other out for 5 minutes.

Wow ExiledPariah I wish i had a theatre like that lol I'd love to go watch it like that. (and save some money, too)

I'd like to see Rampage stomp Machida but I'm pretty confident he can't get past the defense and if he has been working angles instead of staying in a straight head on style of standup then there's nothing Rampage can do. Remember when Rashad lost to Machida? That was cause he couldn't keep up with Machida's speed and Rampage lost to Rashad for the same reason...

Brock Lesnar... The beast that man would be if he actually took a year or two to work on his standup. He has none. He's probably the most powerful person in MMA but has no fighting style to back it up.

As far as martial arts go I'm a huge Wing Chun fan. (watch Ip Man) I've practiced that off and on for a bit. I'd love to see that incorporated in MMA. Ground stuff... Wrestling is superior to all from what I've seen.

geeogree : Violence isn't for everyone but martial arts should be something everyone has an interest in as far as self defense goes. Definitely not if this was a perfect world though

Saw the pay per view last tonight, it was probably one of the best in a while...

REALLY upset that Matt Hughes lost, and that he got knocked out 21 seconds into the first round... I don't think it's that Hughes lost that I really hate, just that he lost so quickly. That had great potential to be fight of the night in my opinion.

I agreed with the split decision victory given to Rampage. Yes, Machida did take over and dominate the entire third round, but Rampage did a lot more damage in the first two rounds, and got the takedown in the second round. There were a couple of guys who were pretty upset that Machida lost (that's a pretty big understatement, I don't think I've ever heard anyone cuss that quickly and violently in my life..) and I just kinda laughed to myself because they were making fun of Matt Hughes after BJ Penn beat him.. Kinda the whole "what comes around, goes around" thing in my opinion haha... Oh and both Rampage and Machida have agreed that they want an immediate rematch to settle the score, after the fight Rampage had actually thought that Machida had won, he even raised Machida's hand after the bell at the end of the 3rd round..

Next up is the Ultimate Fighter Season 12 Finale.. I hope the final match is Jonathan Brookins vs Nam Phan and I hope Brookins beats him.. and I hope that Bonnar wins his fight.. and I hope we get to see Cody Mackenzie, Dane Sayers, and Kyle Watson in fights sometime during that event...

Then we get to watch Georges St. Pierre beat Josh Koscheck again at UFC 124! Haha

And as for the Brock Lesnar comment.. yeah he does need to work on his stand-up a lot... but he really shouldn't have agreed to fight Cain as quickly as he should.. it was only like 3 months after he fought Carwin and got his face bashed up really badly.. in my opinion that was the reason he bled so quickly... But like he said in the post-fight interview, he'll be back.

I don't see the appeal in UFC either. Whenever I got a glimpse of it, it always seemed to end after a minute of "fighting". Personally if I want to see two guys really fight each other, I'll watch boxing.

NotJon : You must've seem some really dominant one sided fights. I assure you the guys in MMA are very highly trained professionals. Most guys in the UFC organization have been practicing one martial art or another for at least 10 years before making it that far.

Too bad you haven't seen some great technical fights especially with wrestling and BJJ. Georges St Pierre and Matt Hughes would be some great people for you to check out. There's plenty more that last a long time and show how skilled these people are.

And as far as boxing goes... I'm a big fan and loved watching Pacquiao recently but boxing is becoming less relevant and honestly takes nowhere near as much overall skill as MMA. I'd like you to check out the recent James Toney (former champion boxer on multiple weight divisions) vs Randy Couture. Randy Couture is every bit the fossil that James Toney is but at will took him to the dirt and finished him.

ExiledPariah : I was blown away by the Matt Hughes fight too. BJ is quite the scrapper but a knockout that quick was insane... oh well that's MMA.

As far as Rampage goes... he played his game flawlessly. Machida was the same fighter as before and didn't evolve much for Rampage. I know Machida is very partial to his first discipline (karate) but martial arts need to evolve.

I've watched a bit of MMA before, and I think that it's pretty good. Of course, fighting sports have always been a lot of a go-go for me, as I do Karate, and so yeah. But yeah, I reckon it's good.

cantstoplearning : Boxing isn't relevant anymore? Boxing is about endurance. It's about facing your fears and in many ways yourself. It takes skill to not cry when someone punches you in the nose and to keep standing while being pounded after 12 rounds. I'm sorry but boxing does not need skill and fancy fighting, it's the simplest of human interaction. Anyone can box, only few can be among the greats.

Honestly, I dislike MMA greatly. So that's why I haven't made a thread about it. I will begin to be mad if MMA topics flood this site.

Honestly, it's not entertainment. It's sad when "professional wrestling" is more exciting than watching two people beat the crud out of each other...

I just don't care for a bland "sport"

The appeal is lost on me. Completely.

Most of the regular fights suck. But the main events are awesome like when Velasquez beat the crap out of Lesnar. Me and my friends meet to fight each weekend. It takes a lot of endurance and you have to take a lot of pain. I also love boxing, Pacquiao is the best.

I love MMA I think its a true test of the body and its great when you see two trained athletes from different backgrounds with their own styles face off. I think its becoming more accepted now that people can see the specials and understand how much training these guys go through and that its not just a backyard brawl like it was viewed back in the early YouTube days. I really like Ice Man Chuck Liddell even though hes past his prime now he had some of the great fights in UFC and Spider Sylvia is cool to when hes not showing off. UFC is growing fast and in my opinion has become one of the top 5 sports in America.

cantstoplearning : I’m an avid MMA follower as well as a Boxing journalist so I welcome anything resembling combat sports because I am probably more informed than most… I follow many MMA promotions, I wish those who promoted and regulated MMA would allow the sport to be more like the way Boxing is in the way that it is conducted because I feel the promotional model drastically limits potential fights from taking place and, it seriously dampers the recognition that MMA as a sport is due as a whole and not strictly limited to one MMA promotion.

I love the coverage that HDNet gives MMA because it covers MMA as a sport and focuses more on the whole spectrum of the sport compared to some others.

Is anyone watching the Ultimate Fighter on Spike. If you are who do you want to win. I wanted Nam Phan to win and I thought he should have won against Johnson.

serphvarna : From my PS3: I haven't had a chance to check out this season's TUF but I will watch the card tomorrow following the boxing PPV with Nonito Donaire in the main event. A side note for anyone who has not seen Donaire in action I highly recommend checking him out you won't be disappointed .

In regard to TUF one thing that really annoys me not only as a fan but a journalist as well is that none of the bouts you see on the show every week are official. The ones that take place live are official but not the other bouts that take place in the UFC's gym in Las Vegas. This is due to a Nevada state athletic commission rule that basically states that because the bouts ar e taped to air at a later date and because for obvious reasons the UFC doesn't want results getting leaked, in order to avoid the results being recorded as official by the commission, the fights that take place pre-recorded on the show prior to the finale are classified as exhibitions.

It is a bit of a rip off compared to the contender tournaments which were all official but someone who competes in TUF can walk in with an undefeated record and eithe suffer a legitimate knockout or submission loss with no controversy yet because of the fight being classified as an exhibition their record remains undefeated.

It is a confusing regulation that I wish those who regulate would come to a level compromise...

There is an XFC card taking place tonight that I will be watching in the early morning hours. They're based close to where I reside but as usual lack of adequate promotion locally kept me out of the loop and thus had no time to consider to be in attendance. If any of you have HDNet I recommend viewing this card for those who don't there are probably ways to find it online.

Just watched Nam Phan and Leonard Garcia a few minutes ago. That was total bulls***, Nam dominated the entire fight and took so few hits. The worst decision ever.

I love MMA. I have trained in it and I personally know Chris Cole from when I was in high school. He is sort of a rookie official MMA fighter now. He's been training for more years than I know.

serphvarna : I haven't had a chance to view the three MMA cards from this weekend yet as I just got done covering four Boxing cards yesterday were they good?

NotJon : Boxing is definitely about endurance but boxing writers don't nearly get enough credit for their stamina, yesterday I covered four cards from four different countries and didn't have the benefit of US TV for two of them so I'm a little low on energy today. Thursday starts another rough go of it but I think I only have three cards next week and thankfully only two are on the same day.

bvd1022 : I didn't get to see all of the MMA cards this last weekend, but I did get to see The Ultimate Fighter Finale. I thought the Nam/Garcia fight was kinda biased, not saying I agree or disagree with the decision but I like Garcia as a fighter a lot better than Nam. I was really glad to see that Cody McKenzie won again, he's kinda one-dimensional but apparently it works since he's undefeated (unless you count the exhibition matches in TUF) and every win has been by guillotine... Would like to see him in the UFC again. Even though it ended in decision (like almost every fight on this card unfortunately) I liked the Rick Story/Johnny Hendricks fight too, even though it wasn't the most interesting fight. Wish Kendall Grove would've beaten Demian Maia, I think Kendall Grove is definitely underestimated and I hate Demian Maia. Glad Stephan Bonnar won, he's one of my favorites, and I'm DEFINITELY glad that Brookins beat Johnson. Johnson is too cocky... Joe Rogan was talking about how classy they both were. Yes, Brookins is a really classy guy, but Michael Johnson is just a trash-talker. Glad he got exposed as having no ground game.

Heard the Strikeforce card was epic, last 3 fights ending in devastating first round KOs.

ExiledPariah : As I said before, the reason why the fights on TUF are classified as exhibitions is because of a Nevada State Athletic Commission rule that basically means that because the bouts are taped for a later date and because they are held in the UFC’s gymnasium in Las Vegas that it means their exhibitions.

It’s kind of a cheat because like I said a guy can walk into that competition and either get knocked out or submitted legitimately yet because it’s an exhibition a guy can keep an undefeated record minus what happens on the finale cards because those are legitimate MMA cards. It doesn’t make much sense because it takes away from the credibility of the competition.

In Boxing on “The Contender” series every fight that took place in those competitions counted. The fights did not follow traditional round limits of boxing as the fights where scheduled for five rounds with the finals going either eight to ten rounds which are in line with professional boxing limits. A lot of the fights in those competitions, especially in the first tournament had some questionable decisions strictly because of the unconventional five round limit but every fight counted. I don’t know why those behind TUF can’t do something similar.

I also feel that if MMA were run similar to the way Boxing is run that the sport would be better off because there would be more potential for fighters to fight the fighters that the fans want to see them fight.

The promotional model that MMA follows is similar to pro wrestling in that fighters under contract to one promotion can only fight fighters within that promotion. Where as in Boxing there are promoters but it’s fighters can fight fighters who are under promotional deals to other promoters etc.

It hurts some MMA fighters who people think should fight one guy who is in the same weight class but competes in a different promotion. Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva is the best example of that. When Liddell was champion people kept saying when will he fight Silva but because Silva was under an agreement with Pride the fight didn’t happen until Pride ceased as a promotion.

I wonder what that fight would have been like with both of them in their prime…
