It is healthy to take a break and look across the room every 20 minutes for 20 seconds to help the eye from straining.
Remember to blink, blink, blink.

Your warning is indeed something to heed, quo. I've never heard of the condition up until now, but when you think about it it does make sense. But, it is only a temporary condition. The average gamer blinks only 7 times a minute, as compared to the normal 16-20 times. Lack of blinking can result in eye strain, among other things, so it is good to look away for a while after staring at a screen for a while. I would say do it after less than twenty minutes, though.

It is common sense...why would someone just stare into a computer screen for hours not knowing it can damage your eyes? My optometrist tells me to let my eyes wander across the room or even outside every once in a while to avoid eye strain. I don't think I've ever experienced eye strain unless I'm ridiculously tired and shouldn't be reading anything anyways. I usually get up from the computer once in a while or I look at my fish, my parakeet, out the window, in the mirror, etc. frequently. I guess it helps to have interesting things in the room with you...
