I am appalled by the media coverage of the war. How the media portrays the war. The say anything and everything they can to run down the military and the job they are doing. If you were to listen to the media what would you think about the war? Would you think it was going good? Of course you wouldn’t. If you would listen to the men and women who were over there this might be a little of what you would hear

Interview with Captain Sherman Powell by Mat Lauer

When Lauer asked "Now, don't get me wrong, I think you guys are probably telling me the truth about how well it's going to over here, but there might be a lot of people at home wondering how that could be possible, how could it possibly be going well here with the conditions you're facing and with the insurgent attacks that you're facing, so what would you say to those people who were doubtful that morale can be that high here?" this is the response he got

CAPTAIN SHERMAN POWELL: Well, sir, I tell you if I got my news from the newspapers also I'd be pretty depressed as well.

LAUER: What don't you think is being correctly portrayed?

CAPTAIN SHERMAN POWELL: Sir, I know it's hard to get out and get on the ground and report the news, and I understand that, and I appreciate that fact, but for those of us who actually have a chance to go out and go on patrols and meet the Iraqi army and Iraqi police and go on patrols with them, we are very satisfied with the way things are going here, and we are confident that if we're allowed to finish the job we started, we'll be very proud of it, and our country will be proud of us for doing it.

So really, the fact is that the war is going well. You are just being told its not by people who haven’t fought over there a day in their lives.

Acctually belial..... this was just a referance.

And to mike, this was a question he was going to ask that backfired on him. He was trying to get an answer more negitive about the war. Instead he got this.

Ok....... well since you just want to rag on me. Please, do please shoot some sort of hole in this. Can you? Its hard to deny.

We aren't trying to "rag on you", John. Or I'm not trying to, at least.

I actually think that what you're suggesting is quite likely from our media. But don't get me wrong, it's not because the media is "liberal" or anything; it's simply because the headline "DOZENS DIE IN NEW INSURGENT ATTACK" sells more newspapers than "PEACE CONTINUES...HO-HUM, NOTHING MUCH HAPPENING OVER HERE". People are always bored by peace and interested by violence. It's just the way we are.

So you can't fault Mat Lauer for trying to create a story that would increase the Neilsen ratings for his news show. He's just pandering to the public's tastes, sad as it may seem.

I haven't used that word yet. So HA. Now lets continue. This system of media is currupt. How the publish death and violance for the sole purpose of promoting their agenda and selling papers. Oh wait maybe they do it at the same time. How convienant.

You may not have actually used the word "liberal" yet, but you seem to be implying it when you mention "their agenda".

The entire American media isn't trying to complete a liberal agenda. I have seen plenty of newspapers make front-page stories about things like high taxes, pro-life rallies, privitization of Social Security, etc. I've also seen media that support the Iraq war, and media that support Bush. There are as many conservative media outlets as liberal ones (Rush Limbaugh, anyone?) and the media that are liberal can be ignored at your own discretion; it's your choice, after all. You don't have to watch that TV show or read that newspaper if you don't want to.

So please calm down, OK?

wow, i thought we could make actual thoughts here. Ok, well you are right, not all media is the same. But lets name a some sources here, abc, cbs, cnn, etc.

there are some medias that don't publish what i'm saying, but they are few and far between. Do don't make it sound other wise.

I said their agenda.... because i was talking about anti iraq war, hence the name of this thread. I do like rush limbaugh (like is an understatement), but we aren't talking about that (political idiologies) right now.
