Step 1: Find an old disk, flash drive, or floppy (I've always used disks; they're cheap and easy to store, but apparently floppys are preferred for XP, as I've only restored for Vista/7).

Step 2: Visit http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=E8FE6868-6E4F-471C-B455-BD5AFEE126D8 (don't worry, it's a link to Microsoft, no viruses or anything)

Step 3: After putting the file onto your mass media storage device, save it in a place where you won't lose it (duh). When your computer gets screwed up, just shut her down, put the thing in, boot her up, and run the disk!

Now, if your computer crashes, no more tears!

You can buy a pack of 5 disks for a couple of bucks at Walgreens, and I'm sure for cheaper at other places. If it specifies you need six disks, then you probably should get six. I mean, hopefully you can afford them.

Perhaps I should have mentioned that I meant CD...CDs can hold tons of data, much more then the file for a recovery disk.
