I was just about to reply to a thread when I noticed the last post date: 09-30-10, almost a month ago. So I came back to the board because I usually pay a lot of attention on this (I wanted to know what went wrong) and I found out that the thread was marked as "new", which is usually what I take into consideration when I decide to make a reply. I went on a little research and I discovered that there are some threads that were created in March (last reply on April) that are also marked as "new". Obvious, I wouldn't leave a reply on these threads, they are clearly old ones, but when they are not that old, how can I know? When is a thread old? When its last replies was one month, 20 days, 15 days ago? The reason why I want a answer from moderators is because I want an "official" answer

PS2: Fine.
Mega Driver with 71 games: Nice.
Super Nintendo bought at the fair for US$ 25,00: Double Nice.
Turbo Game VG9000T bought at the same fair for US$ 5,00: Just Great.
Black Mega Driver 3 found in a trash can with 4 cartridges: works like a charm.
Long in the tooth Atari: running smoothly
Xbox360 Falcon bought for US$ 700,00, used for 6 months: May devil be with it and guard it

Well I'm not a Mod, but I do know the answer to this question.
A thread will automatically be closed if it is not replied in for more than 6 months. Or if a mod with power over it closes it.

If it is less than 6 months it is marked as new to show that it's ok to post in it.
Since it's not called "thread bumping" on here, becasue all the threads that they don't want you posting in get closed after 6 months.

Best Keep your concience as clean as you can, or charma will come with a blade in it's hand. It will strike all those who seek to gain without giving, and spare all of those who are weak and forgiving.

it is sort of forum specific too...

the 6 month thing is true. After 6 months after the last reply a thread will get closed.

However, if more than a month has passed since the thread was posted in I would consider that thread "old".... and if you intend to post in it then you should do your best to add something intelligent or important. Depends on the forum of course.

To further expand on what geeo said, if a thread is asking for help or advice those threads really shouldnt be bumped if the last reply is over a month or 2 old, while threads asking things like your favorite game for instance can be bumped even if they are a day off the 6 month thread expiration.
Though threads that close to the expiration date should probably have more then a one liner to bump them back to the top, otherwise it just looks spammy...

DarkHyren : I see...well, I won't answer that thread since it's one of "what's your fave" and there won't be nothing really important to add. I guess I'll also set a personal 15 day dead-line when looking for threads to reply to. Thanks for all answers, thread may be closed if you wish
