When I was a young lad, on the back of comic books were full page ads for the Charles Atlas Dynamic Tension Bodybuilding System. I sent for that exercise course in 1970, but back then didn't have the discipline to workout at home everyday. In 2000 I rediscovered Charles Atlas and find he has a very good system of health and strength building. This is not SPAM here is a website that has archives of old mail order bodybuilding courses. The full Atlas course isn't on it since it is still being sold. Let me tell you, at 58 I have a six pack.

Never knew that you were that old. Never would have guessed it. Most people that age HATE the internet. Good for you! Well anyway my grandparents talked about this guy and how ad's used to be every where, never thought it would actually work though.

I have to admit, I only know of Charles Atlas through the backs of old comic books and the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Impressive to see that it's still around, though.

I'm not going to compare myself to him... however I find certain protein powder drinks to "feed" the muscles after workout. I''m 26 and have been lifting weights since I was 14. For a time, namely 19-23 I believe, I was taking a certain protein powder which has 50 grams per scoop, however it became too expensive.

I still try to keep a high-protein diet as I continue to lift weights, but I can't afford the protein powder anymore. It doesn't matter much to me though, because weight lifting has always been my form of relaxing, and will probably continue to be as I get older.

tRIUNE, I also lift weights, I have a home gym, if your into books - Dinosaur Training by Brooks Kubik is really good, more strongest man stuff. The oldtimers recommended whole milk for protein, it's cheaper than them powders, compare gram for gram of protein. Atlas did push-ups on 3 chairs, try doing that everyday and see the results, a beginner starts with feet on the floor. Aim for 20 reps and work up to 3 sets. Doing pull-ups are really good and very hard.

From that pic, it looks like the same rationale as some of the new sit-up machines. You get more extension on the various muscles as you can go through a wider range of motion. In addition, you don't get the 'effortless' position where the floor completely supports you.
