You can go to any of the other islands and be away from it. Maui, Oahu, and Kauai are pretty popular. Big Island has an entire industry built around the volcano and tourism. There's a town named, for some reason, Volcano, that's just outside the park. I stayed there with my wife last year to go check it out.
