I'd have to go with the Super Robot Wars series. Combines tactical RPG's with Big Damn Robots. Dissappointed that I can't find any english language roms of any of the other Super Robot Wars games aside from the OG titles as I would like to try my hand at them while being able to actually understand them. Still, what can you do right?

Does Ratchet & Clank series count? I really like these games and Clank the robot is a great comic relief and helper throughout the game. If you haven't ever played it I would still say try it out as its really fun and has some great weapons.

MegamanZero in my opinion is a great robot game but they refer to robots as reploids. The game itself was just as good (if not better) as the X series with a good story and fun action due to the fact that Zero can obtain new techniques as well as chips or elves.

Used to play MechWarriors quite a bit in the past, that was quite a cool game, not sure however, if I would rate it as the best of all time, but certainly used to be a favourite.
