I was thinking about this the other day and I wondered how many people who support either position do or don't support the other. Both advocate the killing of another human being for various and sundry reasons.

So I'm curious. Which position do you hold? For both, against both, or for one and not the other? And why?

I don't really have anything against abortions because, although they may have made a stupid decision, sometimes people can't handle the pressure of having kids at young ages, even if they put them up for adoption. I do however support the death penalty, because, as I see it, it's "an eye for an eye" and if somebody killed somebody without proper reasoning, (eg: Self defense, protecting someone, etc.) then they should be punished with the same pain that they brought upon that person, or have to spend the rest of their life in a dump I like to refer to as "prison."

Best Keep your concience as clean as you can, or charma will come with a blade in it's hand. It will strike all those who seek to gain without giving, and spare all of those who are weak and forgiving.

I support the death penalty. Some people don't deserve to be supported by tax dollars for being savages. But I think the death penalty should be used only if they can prove that the suspect committed the crime 100%.

As for abortion, I'm against them for the most part. There are very few valid reasons to be getting one.

I don't support either of them. Abortion because I believe it is wrong to kill a human that doesn't get a say in it, and if you REALLY want to get rid of the baby, have it, then give it up for adoption. If a girl ends up pregnant because of rape, that doesn't give her the right to kill the baby.

Death penalty because I don't believe it is right to kill someone for killing someone else.
Lock them up in prison for life, but don't kill them.

I don't agree with either one. Abortion is a rediculous and selfish misuse of a woman's power. A woman can get an abortion and the father of the child have no say. If you're raped, I know it's horrid, but that's no reason to take it out on the kid. It's still a baby no matter how tiny it is. Hell, it's a baby when it's still in a woman's ovaries it's just not fertalized yet. The ONLY times it's acceptable are if the woman is a victim of incest or if the stupid woman (God forbid) drank heavily or did drugs while she was pregnate. Because the child will have no life. It'll be deformed and/or mentally handicapped. Better to send it to Heaven before it's born so it won't have to suffer.

As for the Death Penalty, Kerubi is gonna take care of that. So if you wanna know my opinion, read his reply.

i agree with abortions because the fetus has developed any human emotions but i don't think you should just be able to them as easy as you can it creates a disregard to end life before it even starts.
as for the death penalty murder is still murder even if it's done by the law.If you advocate it are you really any better in which those who have committed these acts.
Killing them does nothing it does not soothe the pain.It doesn't make people fear any more then they already did and prevent these acts.

ppr2010 : Actually, murder is defined as unlawfully killing someone, so killing legally is not murder.

Anyway, I have no problem with abortion. The fetus isn't even sentient yet and could mess up the potential mother's life significantly.

As for the death penalty, it is slow, expensive (generally moreso than life in penalty), and inhumane.

LOL i know what you mean but that is the definition of legal term not the definition of the general idea in society the definition of murder is an intentional killing of another human being. if you look up anything with similar terms like manslaughter you will get it defined as the unlawful act of w/e

Look at XxChaosxX for our opinion on Abortion.

As for the Death Penalty, I am completely against it. I've done a research paper in high school and found out that the death penalty costs a LOT more money than life in prison without parole and, personally, I think they suffer more in prison. Also, there have been a good number of innocent people that were on death row before being found innocent and exonerated, with some actually being executed already before their exoneration. And, in some states it is still legal to sentence minors and the mentally challenged to death, which I highly disagree with. As for the simple fact that the prison is committing murder as well.

I don't care for either abortion or the death penalty. Abortion is a medical breakthrough because it can save the life of mothers and children that would have been born with fatal or severe complications - Not to be used as a "morning after pill". And I don't believe in the death penalty either. Dying would be the easy way out.

I'm for both death penalty and abortion. For one, death penalty = saving money. Why keep a murderer alive? Oh right cause keeping them alive means media gets more cash and so do the prisons. As for abortion try getting raped then you might like abortion a bit more.

It must make criminals feel safe and secure knowing they can go rape and kill other people and get off the hook easily. Your not going to fix crime if there is no punishment. Instead, your offering criminals a retirement package with all food and housing paid for what is up with that?

You think prison is suffering? Life is a one time thing, ending it is the highest possible punishment you can give someone.

It's better to end your life and take the "easy way out" into hell then it is to hide in a cell for the rest of your life hiding in fear for final judgment. Prison is just a waiting room for hell, once your in hell that will be your punishment.

I don't really support the wide-spread use of either option. However, I also can't say that either should be illegal. There will always be a few cases here and there that I feel more than justified in allowing.

There are a few serial killers/rapists that I don't think deserve to live any longer and I would much rather know they are dead and can NEVER hurt anyone again.

As for abortion again there will be the few cases that will save a mothers life when the baby is not viable at all. I have little respect for the women who use it as a last line of contraception.

anybody who advocated the death penalty is saying it is okay to kill innocent people, before they let DNA evidence into court who knows how many innocent people were killed by the death penalty. Something like over 30 people sitting on death row were cleared when DNA evidence became admissable. If the courts or a perfect system were in place I'd have a different attitude, until then I will not support any law that kills innocent people. As for abortion, totally against even in rape cases (don't want to go deeper it gets really personal on this subject).

I know I gave my opinion already, but I'd like to clear something up. I didn't give a source or anything for my reasons for thinking the Death Penalty is more expensive. I did some reserch and looked at lots of sites. My fiance and I found this one:

http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/costs-death-penalty

It goes through many different states and tells their average cost of the DP and life in prison. It's pretty cool if you guys wanna check it out,

so it's 99.9% court costs that seem to increase the cost of the death penalty. Not a surprise there at all.

Cause, killing someone should cost very little. Find a handgun, aim at back of head and pull trigger. Done.

I wonder if lawyers are the biggest lobbying group in favor of the death penalty....

The greatest problem with the death penalty is the number of innocent people who are executed. If someone is thrown in jail, and then found to be innocent a few years later, that person can at least be released. Someone is put to death cannot.

That is why the death penalty is so expensive. The long and arduous process has to be checked over and over, or else more innocent people are put to death. However, this ensures that a halfway competent lawyer can drag the process out for upwards of ten years.

So the three choices are to either have a death penalty with an extremely long and expensive court time, a death penalty that puts a high number of innocent people to death, or no death penalty at all.

I am against abortion, unless it is within the first trimester in cases of rape, statutory rape, and incest. I am against death sentences fully and I believe that they should be replaced with harsh jail sentences and that jails must be made less comfortable.

Well if the person is convicted of murder and found guilty of it why go to court in a trial when everyone already knows what happened? Sure there are a few cases that might be hard to figure out with no video evidence or anything but for the cases that have the evidence why bother? You have to look at it from a business perspective if they were to execute people they would be loosing money so they drag it in court for years to cash in on it.

It still is a business and they want the $$$$ just like any other business. Human values in business is low they just want what they can get from you. If your in jail your just another piggy bank for them they could care less if your innocent or not.

Now here is the problem you mention about innocence. That is not the courts problem that goes all the way back to the judgment of law enforcement. So the real people to blame here are cops dragging in innocent people. If that were not the case there would be less innocent people in jail and executed so its not just the court.

I'm not quite sure what you mean when you say someone who is found guilty should not be sent to trial...a judge cannot establish guilt without a trial. That is the point. Then there are appeals and hearings from higher courts. Law is not a business (it is a profession), and neither are trials. People's lives are on the line, which is judges are supposed to go through all this so diligently.

Police generally do not know for sure who is guilty and who is innocent. They simply arrest the people they feel are most likely to be guilty. It is still up to the courts to pass judgement. There are plenty of cases where the police have arrested people in a sloppy or biased way, and they may even give false or misleading testimony at a trial, but it is still the courts that pass judgement.

I don't believe everyone deserves the death penalty. Only those who disregard other human lives and are simply...animals! Like serial killers...pedophiles...rapists. It would depend on the severity of the crime. As far as abortion...I don't think it's right at all. People should just use protection or not have sex! Instead of taking away an innocent life for their stupidity.
