Does anyone if there's a way to get Micrososft Word 2007 off the internet without having to pay for it? I need it on my laptop but I can't seem to find it except on Ebay and the cheapest one is $99. I don't have that kind of money right now. Two of my professors want us to do assignments on Microsoft Word 2007 and I don't have it. Does anyone know what to do?

Even if it's just a 60 day trial or something, that'll at least give me time to ave up the money for it.

There is a program out there called 'OpenOffice' that will save files in Word (i.e., *.doc) format. It's absolutely free - the only thing you have to remember is to do a 'Save As' instead of just 'Save'. I got my husband to start using it after an incident involving Word 2007 and a new laptop, and I personally can't tell the difference in output.

Yeah, I use OpenOffice (Cause my laptop got hacked, and I'm too cheap to buy MS programs), and it seems to work fine for me. =D

Robert7 : So if my professors tried to open it up through an attachment, it would open up on Microsoft Office 2007?

It would open/save automatically in a special format, but I think you can switch it to .doc.

*After checking*

Yeah, you can open/save in every .doc format. '95, '01, etc.

When you go to save a document, you have to select 'Save As', which gives you a choice of formats to put the document in. One of those is the *.doc format, which is what Word uses. If you don't choose 'Save As' (and just hit 'Save'), it saves it as a *.odt (Open Document Text) format.

Are you downloading from this page: http://download.openoffice.org/other.html ? I just went there, and selected the (English, US, 3.2.1, Windows) version and got a pop-up giving me the options to 'Save File' or 'Cancel'.

You can also try going to http://openoffice.cs.utah.edu/stable/3.2.1/ and getting the file OOo_3.2.1_Win_x86_install-wJRE_en-US.exe (Sort by Last Modified, and look for 25-May-2010 to find it easier).

XxChaosxX : I don’t know of any free versions other than a trial version… I use Microsoft Office daily for my writing and upgraded to 2007 two years ago after using the 97 version for my whole career up to that point. My best advice is go to Office Depot or Staples and see if there are any deals that you can take advantage of. When I got it I paid under $30 because it was on sale.

The only adjustment that I had to make was the use of USB Flash Drives to save my work having only used floppy disks up to that point.

I have been an Amazon customer for years and was planning on ordering it from them but they wanted $90 for it so I got a better deal from Office Depot. Hope this helps you.

Good Luck.
