Does youth and superficial beauty decide who someone is today? I think it does because most young people are mostly influence by musicians like Taylor Swift or Lil Wayne, or by actors and celebrities like Miley Cyrus or Robert Pattinson. The problems is that most of this isn't always positive. Most of stuff these people present is either too sexual or sometimes too violent. So here's my question for today, is today's society letting youth, beauty and money decide how people operate and become who they are?

Of course it does, this is nothing new. Most of the youth is dictated by idolizing celebrities. They even made a TV show about it "American Idol" .

Everyone everywhere is obsessed with youth. Out with the old, in with the new.

The Beatles and Tom Jones were also young in the 60s and many teens went screaming about them, same with Villi Manilli or Patrick Swayze during the 80s

History hasn't changed.

Look at all the older women and men in hollywood, they do whatever it takes to look young. Even if they look like plastic dolls, they think, at least they look like young plastic dolls.

xfighter1138 : too true... except this time around we have 100429482 channels on TV to watch these people.... and youtube and other internet sites where you can find almost any piece of information or pictures about these people.

I personally am tired of it. The celebrity worship is getting old. These are just regular people with talents in one area or another. And quite often they aren't all that talented.... but we're told they are good so many times that some of the sheep out there actually believe it and jump on the bandwagon.

Absolutely and unfortunately this is how it is. Its sad really. Probably one of the biggest problems in America these days. I also agree with what geo says about celebs. I think they can't be trusted. They only want money and they lead us astray.

Heck yeah. Geeze just look at Dolly Parton. She's 64 years old and has gotten thirty surgeries trying to make herself look young. But all she'd doing is making herself look like a clown.

You bet your @$$ we are! Not that I'm complaining, it's just that we should have people with more talent... I'm just asking for better music. *ahem* *glances at layout*

Absolutely. It's kind of unfortunate, actually... Looking good is not all about looking young. It's about being healthy, confident, fit, in-charge, stylish, etc. All of those things can make a person look 100x better.. It's definitely not all about youth. Women shouldn't focus so much on getting surgeries and removing wrinkles. Ever heard of the term "cougar"?

I completely agree. You can travel to any college across this nation and, just like mine, most of the people are emulating some celebrity or another. And the celebrities... They're expendable. As soon as they get a little age on them or just simply become uninteresting, they're dropped like a hot potato. Just look at the teen idol, Aaron Carter. When is the last time he's been in the tabloids for something other than "fallen child star" or some other inane headline? He was replaced by Jesse McCartney who is also practically unheard of anymore. Instead it's all about Justin Bieber. Personally, I did not like any of the "artists", and I use the term loosely, presented by my argument, but they're just examples of the fickle state of our society. I, for one, think that we, as Americans, should be ashamed that we let a "privileged few make mockery of those in the lower zoo." (Line from Sweeney Todd, one of the best musicals ever!) In other words, the majority of Americans sit back and allow the standards of their country, and the expectations of their youth be dictated by a group of people that have no clue about the real issues that normal, everyday people face, and who wouldn't know what reality was if it bit them in the backside.
