Yeah, I'm getting a tattoo. Today most likely. I'm leaving after I make this thread. Part of my skin will forever be changed. I'm nervous because it'll be something staying with me the rest of my life, so I hope I don't regret it. At the same time it's something I've wanted for a long time. I don't have enough time to explain it, so I'll provide pictures when I'm done.

I'm gonna need a pain killer for this.

Where are you getting the tattoo, not where as in location but where on your body? Also what will it be of?

I wouldn't be worried about it not as bad as people make it to be. After a while you'll forget its even there You'll probably like it so much you will want more, kinda like me. Just as long as your not getting wiskers on your face you should not freak out about it being there the rest of your life.

Although I like other people having a tattoo(because they look cool), I can't do one. It freaks me out, that it will be permanent(generally permanent things freaks me out).
I hope you pick one that you really like.
But don't worry so much, I heard that you can remove a tattoo with a laser operation

Anyway, I can't wait to see a picture of it

If there is a deep personal meaning behind the tattoo I doubt you'll regret it.

noelia : That's why it took me so long to get one. I was afraid of the fact that it was permanent and that I wouldn't like it after a having it for a long time. I had a couple of ideas, but I don't think they would have worked out so much.

Annette : Half of the tattoo has meaning, the other half is just a picture. I know for a fact that a meaningful one would be satisfactory for a very, very long time. The problem I've had was that I couldn't figure out what to get. Up until recently, anyway. But that idea will be used if I decided to get another one. IF.

And I'm back home after my session. A friend who is in my unit did mine (and my roommate's) at his house. The tattoo starts from my back, goes over my shoulder and stops at my upper chest. This is a very big one for being a first. I think usually most people start out with something small. But this one seemed appealing to me so I went with it. Only the back side and half the shoulder are finished. My next session on Thursday will finish the rest. So, here is what I have so far:

Explanation: A koi fish swimming up stream (symbolizing dedication, perseverance), the water going over my should and down to my chest, but water is gradually freezing until at the end it's a wave of solid ice with icicles hanging off and little bit of the ice branching out like a neuron reaching out looking for another neuron. The whole thing shows the koi fish trying to swim toward the icy area to be in the cold. I'm a cold climate person. I love snow, ice and winter in general. It's where I feel at home. This tattoo symbolizes me wanting to be back in the cold weather/temperature when I'm in a place that is beyond my comfortable temperature level. And being in Texas for the last 2 and half years really sucks. It's hot as hell in the summers, and going to Kuwait will probably be a lot worse since the heat there is known to reach 140F.
And yeah, it hurt. A lot of pain or even just a little, there wasn't a time the needle was hitting when I wasn't clenching hard to something, be it my leg, the chair or whatever. I only made grunts when he was doing a sensitive area. That's when the pain hurt the most. And maybe it's just me. I have very little fat on my body (6%). So the only thing under my skin is either muscle or straight up bone. And I'm assuming having a little fat would have taken the pain away to some extent.

Let me tell you all what it feels like. If you can picture this, imagine taking pin (the kind you use for sewing) and dragging along your skin, making a deep scratch. It's stings, a lot depending where you get it. I had to down two beers in the span of 30 minutes to get a small buzz that reduced the amount of pain I felt probably by 15%. Now the pain isn't horrible by any means, but it does stings. I hate needles of any kind and ALWAYS squirm or tense up when I'm getting shots or blood drawn. That's why it hurts me more so than other people.

I could feel where exactly it be excruciating to get a tattoo. Females, take it from me. A tattoo from the bottom of your hip to about the middle of your ribcage would look very sexy. However, I will tell you this- be prepared for the pain you'll feel on your side. My god, the backside of my tat was a few inches from my side, but the areas that were close to it were very sensitive. I can only imagine that it hurt like no hell to get one done on your side. But should you go through with it and show it off in a bikini, know that you will turn the head of EVERY guy, including mine.

So, I'm gonna eat some garlic/cheese bread sticks and play Blaster Master on my Wii now. Let me know what you think of the pics.

WOW it's really big! I don't think that I could stand all this pain, because I don't like needles at all too. You must be really strong to stand all of this!
*shows respect*

As long as the pattern, I do like it a lot! For 2 reasons: one because I like those tattoos that start from behind and end in front of the chest. And the other reason is that it has a hidden meaning(and this one has a good one)

Now just relax and wait till Thursday. I hope you'll upload a few more pictures of the final outcome then

Getting a small tattoo isn't so bad. This one only hurt me because of how big it is, which meant a lot of my skin getting poked at by a needle. A small one would normally take a 15 minutes. Even less for word. Mine took a couple hours. But it's because of its size and the coloring/shading.

awwww... I read the title as "I'm getting a Vizzed tattoo"... so I'm slightly disappointed. Cool looking tattoo though.

I've never cared to get one... but if I did I would probably do something small/significant.

Wow your tattoo makes mine look wimpy. Mine looks like this. And for thos who are thinking about getting a tattoo: when they start to go over your spine it hurts a little more. The reason the pic looks weird is cuz I had to crop it down to make it small enough.

Cyro Xero : I guess it feels different to everyone. When I was getting this one, if felt like someone was taking their fingernail and scratching me really hard. It didn't hurt bad enough for me to not want to get another one though.

That's really intense!
My photographer has a koi fish like that as well, that is my favorite type of art to see in a tattoo. Bravo to your tattoo artist. I think you picked a great design.

That is a great looking tattoo, I can't wait to see the finished chest portion with the ice!

When I got my tattoo it was on my shoulder blade and it's rather small. I remember that it itched and was really warm, and at the very end (took like five minutes) I was ready to ask for a break because it was too much. You know that feeling when you have an itch that you cannot scratch and it just gets more and more intense? That is how it felt.

Beers while getting a tattoo... that actually is supposed to be a really bad idea because it thins out your blood.

That is pretty cool man

I myself had gotten a tattoo and I personally think that the only part that hurt was the outline and it wasn't that bad, the coloring felt like someone just pushing hard with their finger. And I'm pretty thin too 135lbs 6' tall.
