Many different people have different views on abortions.
Some people say, "Legal only when the mother is dying/rape." others say, legal, others say always illegal.
My sister and I being adopted spent time debating over whether abortion is a good thing or not, since there are always other options out there for those who don't want to keep their child.
Many other parents out there would love to have a child, many are waiting for one, because of infertility. Why not give your child to them?

I know that many people would argue "Those who don't want the kid shouldn't have to carry it for 9 months."
Well, maybe you shouldn't get pregnant then. Or not have unprotected sex.

I do believe that if you are dying, or rape that it should be legal.
But otherwise not, illegal.
Any objections?

I am completely against abortion in virtually every case. Its not a woman's right to decide another persons fate. Here in America we have the right to decide our own fate. So I'm going with illegal.

I can understand that argument.
Oh, I'm gonna throw this in here.
We provide the same arguments why abortions should be legal as we did with slavery.
1.) They don't matter, they aren't human.
2.) We own them, we can do whatever we please with them.

It should be up to the person to decide right from wrong. I see no problem with it as long as there is meaning behind it.

Its better to grow up with a loving parent who loves you then it is to grow up and to be adopted and to not know who your parents are. So you have to think about what your doing to the child if you are against abortion. What if the child is from a rapist? If I learned I was adopted and my real dad was was a rapist that would make me feel horrible. That is no way to live a life, kill the baby with abortion dont make them suffer a crappy life.

Hmm. This is also true. But I guess that's why you'd try to warn your child at a young age. My sister and I have known that we were adopted since we were 8, and we found out our birth father was like 23 and on drugs and our birthmother was 16. So it didn't really affect us too much, we were kind of shocked, but we didn't really care all that much. Plus we weren't separated, so that's something good also. If we were I'm sure that would affect us more... Sister sister much? Lol, I hope someone else understands that reference...

No, don't kill the kid, you'd all be surprised how inspirational an abortion survivor is. Plus, about the crappy life, big deal. There are plenty of people who had it terrible in their lives but still managed to make something amazing of themselves. If we did the same with everyone's life, billions would be dead.

Personally I don't see the problem with it in some cases. Like if the baby will have a disease, or the mom was raped, or the mom will die, or the baby will have a miserable life for whatever reason. I think adoption is a good alternative to some of this, but like JS said, it can cause the kid to be miserable (but i know a person who was adopted and he didn't care so this differs from person to person).
Hoochman : and there are plenty of people with miserable lives who suffer for years, or sometimes become horrible people, and I don't think it's right to have a child go through that.

metal572 : If the kid becomes a horrible person than that is his own fault. Him or her wouldn't have any excuse for being a horrible person unless it was mentally disabled. This is the big problem in America, no one likes to take responsibility for their own actions and likes to get it attributed to their own painful past.

Hm. I'm going to point out something else, that I've always thought about.
The world is overpopulated, so maybe if we showed more love, would it help cut back on this problem?
I'm still against it unless under certain circumstances though...

If the world is so over populated than people need to learn some self control. I'm 16. At this stage in someone's life, hormones rage the hardest and I still have self control.

I think abortions should only happen if the child was a result of rape, or if there are severe complications... the baby has complications, the mother is going to die from having a baby, her body cannot carry the baby to term, etc.

Using abortion as a way to correct a "mistake" is just disgusting in my eyes.. It is killing your baby. I know it is the mother's choice, in the end, but I can't really respect someone who does that. (Forgive me if you find that offensive or unfair of me. I don't know how to help it.) If you are having sex then you need to accept that there is always a risk of pregnancy. Nobody should have sex unless they can accept that there may be consequences.

the "terrible life" argument is crap. Sorry.

Children who grow up as adopted kids are treated quite well most of the time.

I know people who grew up in the traditional family structure that hated life. They hated their parents... they probably feel like they would have been better off being aborted.

Another thing.... the world is NOT overpopulated. Whoever told you that is a liar. Population is not the problem, consumption is. This planet could support another 5 billion people if we would learn to live with more balance than we currently do. Especially in the "western world", we waste a lot of space that could otherwise be used. We also eat a LOT of meat which is the least efficient way to get calories. So, over-population is not a good argument either.

And this pretty much sums it up for me.

However, I agree with Jigsaw. People have the right to make this decision for themselves. If they want to kill their unborn child then that choice is on their heads. Pregnancy and labor and hard enough on someone.... to then expect them to go through all that just to give away the baby they never wanted and would rather have killed is even worse. I think killing the child is worse than forcing them through that.... but I can't make that decision for that person.

I'm not even going to bother fully answering the question because everybody who knows me knows that I completely object to an abortion in cases where failing to abort would not kill the mother. Unborn children are living human beings, period.

I do want to ask a question, though: why is it "right" to kill a baby if the baby came about as a result of rape? Does the fact that it's not a willing pregnancy make the baby any less a person?

Crawldragon : I think it's the fact that it was forced upon the woman. Imagine having the reminder that you were raped running around and requiring your attention and love.

Could you love the result of an act of violation as severe as rape? I personally don't think any man could answer that question because we would never experience it.

I think the rape issue is justifiable.... although I personally would suggest adoption as a preferable option if the woman was willing. Either way... abortion should be the last resort rather than the first choice to any situation.

geeogree : Well, I think that's exactly it. You could put the baby up for adoption and then you'd never have to see it again. A supportive husband or other companion could help with the psychological trauma and if you put the baby up for adoption instead there's no death on your conscience. If there's such an easy alternative, I don't think it is justifiable.

I'm just trying to look at it from the woman's perspective...

to go through everything they have to go through to have the baby.... for a baby they never wanted from someone who violated them.... I could see some people feeling justified in the decision if they didn't have a firm stance on abortion to begin with.

geeogree : Well, if we're looking at it from the woman's perspective, here's an entirely different take on it.

Any baby (let's forget about rape for a moment) is the result of the efforts (or stupidity) of a man and a woman. Most abortionists argue that the baby is a woman's choice, but should the father, as one of the creators of the child, have a say in whether the baby is aborted?

Crawldragon : I would argue yes, but in the end... the father's portion is done at conception. The woman spends nine months going through pregnancy in order to produce the baby and all the physical and most of the emotional trauma of a pregnancy or abortion are on her shoulders. So while a man should have some say, he shouldn't be able to make the final decision.

Hmm. This is all quite a lot to think about...
I must say. I am still against it, though I did provide a reason why I believe that people might say "ehh, it's okay."
I guess what you need is some classification over what is "Alive" and "Dead."

I mean, I've grown up in the Bible belt, so I have some knowledge over religion. According to the Bible, a baby is "alive" as soon as its nostrils form within a mother I do believe.
My sister just nodded agreeing, so I think so.
She wants to pitch this in without logging in (as theatredork...)
"If I'm right, from what i've heard, the nostrils are one of the first things formed on a baby... So the baby gets 'alive' pretty quick! And your heart doesn't have to be beating to think. Think about it this way. Many of hear of these wonderful life after death experiences then the people coming back to life to tell their story. They were thinking. Their heart wasn't beating. So therefore... You can't know 100% if a person is dead or not by their heart beating or not, they may not be brain dead."

The people want it legal because they think the unborn baby isn't a live baby and they use the woman's body excuse.
