Sometimes, I post a thread and find out that there is a thread similar to it and it gets closed. Is there any way I can check if there is a thread like mine before I post it, or do I just have to get lucky and make sure it is not a duplicate? Please answer!

well, the best thing you can do is to read the thread titles in the forum you want to post in right before you post a thread just to see if there is anything similar to your idea. If you see a thread with the same topic or idea (or something similar) read it real quick and see if it is similar.

If you're not sure if something is too close to another thread that is already made then feel free to ask the staff.


However, there isn't a search function available to the regular members so finding similar threads is not easy.

Currently right now, there isn't any form of search help just like geeogree said. You have to check manually but hopefully the titles will help you to tell if the threads are alike or not.

In addition to what geeogree was saying, if you find a similar thread, but it is not really what you're looking for, you can start a new thread and reference the one you found. Just mention that you saw it, but it didn't fit with what you wanted to ask/discuss. When you reference it, include the URL. I've done that before and it also helped clarify my question when people came to help.

If you personally start two threads with the same title/topic, the duplicate(s) will always be closed. The mods don't accept that and it's against the rules (which is logical and reasonable).
