Every time I meet someone, they are always talking about having a facebook, or myspace or twitter. It seems that having those things are more important than any basic necessities such as food, clothes, liquids or shelter. Sometimes these things keep people from socializing with real people and also if u watch Dateline on NBC, the show How To Catch A Predator, some of these things get people into a lot of trouble. So what I ask is this: does having a myspace, facebook, or twitter make people more social?, please reply and leave comments.

Hay, if you use it to talk to people you really know then I'd have to say that its being social, but if your only using it for the games then maybe not so much.

for some people the contact they get through those forms of media are the main contacts they have.

I find for me that I get more updates about more people through facebook than I otherwise would. Most of the people I get info about I would basically never ever hear about otherwise.

I do think that some people waste time on facebook and the other sites instead of going out and doing things though. It's like they live vicariously through other people's activities but never do anything themselves.

Social networking is the perfect example of how everything is becoming too impersonal. Ease of communication is one thing, but people are using it as an excuse to never really have to communicate at all. They post something on the site for their hundreds of "friends" they've never met to read and completely avoid any personal relationships. I can understand that you can't always talk face to face, but is a phone call that hard? It's a far cry better than this. 90% of communication is verbal, and posting on the internet doesn't even cover that.

I don't have many facebook friends. Mostly people that are my real friends or that I am ok with (which equals roughly 50 people). I think it's great for talking to your friends when you can't see them, or talking to people that you only know through the internet. The only thing that I really don't like, is formspring. It gives people too much power to say what they want about a person without any consequences.
