When I was still in high school I had an acquaintance who is a lesbian. Well when it came time for prom, our principal got on the intercom system and told us that the couples to prom could only be boy-girl and that if a girl-girl or boy-boy couple showed up that they wouldn't be allowed into prom. I thought that was uber discrimination on my school's part. What do you guys think? Should my friend have been kept from going to prom with her girlfriend just because her date would have been a girl?

I think tRIUNE's right on this one, it is their call. And unfortunately, he's right about stances against homosexuality being called the same as racist .
My answer though? Just don't GO as a couple, act like a couple there. I mean what are they gonna do, kick you out of prom for dancing with someone of the same sex? THAT would be wrong.

I personally don't think it was discrimination.... at least not intentionally directed at your friend. I think the idea that a couple gets a better rate than someone going alone is out-dated.... and causes problems like this.... why not just give out the same rate for tickets whether you have a date or not and stop making a big deal out of it. It's not like these girls couldn't pretend to be going alone and then spend the whole time together.... it makes no sense to me.

It's their prom they can run it how they want plus one of the points of prom is to have a prom king and queen they can't have a prom queen and queen or prom king and king then that would be unfair to everyone else and destroy the purpose of it.

I can see why they did it, they should be able to dance and participate however when it comes to prom king and queen they should be left out of that whole deal. Who cares though let them run it how they want you can have more fun beyond the prom

Well at my school prom king and queen were nominated a few days before prom so if you're not nominated you have no chance of winning prom king and queen. Which means it's nothing but a popularity contest just like homecoming queen. They weren't nominated for queen so there was no chance of them winning it so it wasn't exactly unfair.

I think that this was a discrimination not only against homosexual people, but also against single people. I really don't get why school cares that much, about students' personal life. Since it was a kind of school party, I think that it should be open for all students, no matter their sexual orientation or personal life was during that time.
