First off, I know- "WTF? A 'sauna championship??'" It's the first I've heard of it too, but apparently this thing has been going on since 1999 or something. Basically two finalists compete by seeing who can last the longest sitting a sauna- get this- with a temperature of 230F degrees. One of the both people are burned bad and the competition stops after just 6 minutes. ONLY 6 minutes into it.. One of the guys dies on the way to the hospital. Click link.

"On August 7th, 2010, Russian finalist and former third-place finisher Vladimir Ladyzhensky and Finnish five-time champion Timo Kaukonen, passed out after seven minutes in the sauna, both suffering from terrible burns and trauma. They were both rushed to the hospital with Ladyzhensky becoming subject to disqualification as a result of his death en route. Kaukonen was reported to suffer from extreme burn injuries, and his condition was described as critical, but stable. "

They DQ'ed his ass for dying.

(I was trying to think of a "in Soviet Russia" joke, but I gave up)

I almost felt bad for the dead guy for a split second. But I realized you'd have to be a special kind of stupid to do something like that. And not a champion in sight? Guess we'll have to wait for next years tournament.

Well, the guy who lived won. The one who died was a 5-time champion at it though. I'm assuming because he's done it many times before he figured he last with no problem. Maybe got a little too confident.

Why don't we get a whole bunch of people pregnant on the same day, and let all their kids eat the exact same things and live in the exact same place and have everything the same happen to them, and then see who lives longest. Maybe put them in a sauna, too. You think they would turn the heat down or something, or stop doing the competition entirely.

No, they couldn't do that. The point of the competition is to see who can last the longest. The first one of the two (in the championship match) to leave is the loser.
