I looked through the general topics trying to find what I was looking for and couldn't. I was wondering if I could host a "Mafia" game, and what I couldn't find was an appropriate place to do so, any suggestions? If something like this is allowed. I'll give more info if needed.

well, I have 2 things to say on this:

1) the place you would likely choose would be the stories/simulation forum and

2) there is already a game called "murder mystery" that is currently running and is a regular game that runs on Vizzed.

So, unless your Mafia game is very much different than what is already there then I would have to say no.

There are roughly 20+ players.
Each person is given a certain role to play, and to keep secret, revealing your role is punishable by disqualification, because it ruins the game.
They will be either Mafia or a Townie.
The Mafia know who eachother are, but the Townies are clueless to who anybody is.
To be fair, the Townies outnumber the Mafia.
During the "Day" Townies talk amongst themselves, trying to decide who to lynch.
The Townies are sometimes given clues.
During the "Night" night actions are PM'd to the person who started and organized the game. (In this case it would be me, but other people can come up with their own versions if they want)
Oftentimes someone is killed during the night by a Mafia member, to which the Townies react by voting to lynch someone, when a person dies, their role is revealed the next "Day".
During the "Day", everyone, Mafia and Townies alike, discuss events so far, Mafia will obviously try to weave deception unto the Townies, while pretending to be Townies during the day.
Secrecy, deception, and sneakyness are to be expected. Fingers will be pointed, and if the Townies are smart, enough fingers will be pointed at a Mafia member, and not one of their own.

Once the current murder mystery is over I figure you could start a thread to see what sort of interest there is in your game.... if you can get 15+ players interested then I don't see why not. It's too similar to the murder mystery to allow it to run concurrently though so be patient and wait for the current one to finish up. It's pretty close to being done. Another week or 2 and it should be over.

What are the odds. I had never heard of the Murder Mystery before, and Mafia wasn't even my idea, though my version would be. I'll try it out once MM finishes up, I hope enough people want to play, I've never been able to host one before, thanks.

The problem with playing a game like Mafia (which I have played before in a live setting) via the internet is that many people don't post enough to be "actively" playing. Although that could be deemed as a strategy it doesn't really allow the game to progress very well. But who knows... we'll see what the interest is when the MM ends and see what comes of it. I for one am interested in playing though. I've played Mafia and it's fun. It'll be nice to have a group of people as the "killers" this time around rather than just one.

To deal with the whole "day" and "night" thing I would suggest making each 24 day based on server time a day or a night, that way it will cover those people that dont get on until certain hours.
So it would be like this-
Monday - day
Tuesday - night
Wednesday - day
Thursday - night
And so on. You can of course ask geeo and myself with whatever help you need with the specifics as we have both hosted MM before (since this looks to run in a similar fashion).

Renponce to geeogree: Would you be interested in joining once I get it started? I'm leaving for Game Camp on Saturday, and will be back Friday, so hopefully that should put me right in time for MM to end, if you're psychic. If not, that just gives me more time to buff out the roles. To the point of inactiveness, there are some roles that prevent someone else from posting, though never for the whole game. I have only seen one game sputter out because certain people get bored, I don't think that will happen here though, as long as enough people start it off.

Responce to DarkHyren: I might need some help with that, I did forget to mention that the time periods are sort of already set. Every "Night" will last a certain amount of time, usually 24 hours. A "Day" would be longer, mabye 48 hours, or end after a majority lynch vote. It's not set in stone though.

Lol, I've never expected Mafia in vizzed. But being used to playing this game ( it's actually a card game) I'll give some ideas.

Why not include police(ace), judge(jack) and hostage(queen)?

If the Mafia (or killer, usually the king card or the jokers) pick the police, they'll be arrested and the game's over. Once the townies (or the villagers, the number cards) pick the judge, the game's over as well. Once the townies pick the hostage, the Mafia can kill 2 townies at once.
