To make your own FF-style in-battle characters:

1. Open paint (or something like that)
2. Load the charset file with the character you want to use in battle (if it's not there, find it on My Computer (no yours ), open it and save it as a .bmp file)
3. Copy the still-standing, left-facing sprite of the character
4. Open a battle charset, and paste the character onto one of the previous
5. Remove anything that is around the character.

Paste the character above all the other in-battle images to make your own battle charset. It will look like the old FFs. Also you can make poison animation, sleep animation...

Hope this was understandable.
