I'd have to say pokemon and dragon warrior 1. its a bit nerdy but dragon warrior kept me playing for a long time! great replay value and it gets harder to play every place you get to. ohh! super mario rpg or paper mario are also a great rpgs, its fun watching mario play a game like final fantasy. haha... never really tried final fantasy though... which one is a good one to start with?

earthbound will get you hooked from the first time you play it to the final boss the story is unique in its own charming way and at the time the battles are fun and exhilarating .lol I must've spent at least 96+ hours on that game.but there are many other RPG series that are great as well like legend of zelda and dragon quest as well.
