The SEGA Dreamcast in my eyes was the best of the last gen and has been used for many ideas, I still love the PS2 and the X-Box but the Dreamcast was my fave,SEGA in 2000 had a idea for a motion sensing joypad, could this have been the first Wiimote?

This is not the first time the X-Box controller does look suspiciously like the Dreamcast controller.

Please let me know what you think.

Seeing as they didn't actually make a motion sensing remote, and Nintendo did, I think it's no one's fault but their own if they think the idea was stolen. It they were that concerned about it, I think they would have made one instead of letting the idea just fade away.

Also, what does it matter if some controllers look similar? I mean there are only so many effective ways to design a controller that will be useful and ergonomic.

I think SEGA had a hand in the creation of the Wiimote myself.

Although that pic is very close in relation to a wii remote, I also believe that due to the fact that sega failed to complete this project, Nintendo shouldn't be blamed for stealing plans for the wii's creation.

But, who can trust Nintendo enough to know that Sega had no part in it's creation.

To be fair, The Power Glove was essentially the same idea, however poorly executed by in the day. So I don't think it's a completely stolen idea.

I agree with MegaHarv, the Power GLove was a big FAIL. The look of that motion-sensor controller looks better than the Wii's, but Nintendo only made there own since Sega didn't capitalize

Every company steals ideas off other companies these days, it's because none of them can think of an original idea anymore, so they just use whatever is making other companies money.
It's a sad truth. Back in the day game companies were always looking into new ideas, but these days it's all pretty much the same thing over and over.
Why spend money on R&D when you can steal someone elses idea and make as much money...

But, Nintendo does have R&D. And well, that whole "similar" thing, it's bound to happen anyway. Things would definitely look alike. And the fact that the Wiimote is probably 5 times smaller than that thing makes it somewhat unlikely that Nintendo stole from Sega.

Have you guys seen the way nintendo and sega have teamed up since sega dropped out of the console market? Whose to say people from the Sega project weren't on the team that designed the Wii, anybody know who is responsible for each?

Yeah Dark Hyren is right people steal each others ideas all the time but who ever can capitalize on the idea ends up being more succesful.

fightorace : Ironically, Sega was one of the core project teams to develop the 360.

DarkHyren : As if company ideas didn't steal back in the 80's or 70's? Yeah cause you DEFINITELY didn't have hundreds of gaming studios trying to copy platforming ideas like Mario. Aren't you a fan of imported RPG's? When was the last time there was a turn based RPG that WASN'T the same? It's survival of the fittest, either Sony or Microsoft copy an idea that say Nintendo had or they'll lose profits.

If you're trying to say that there's not an original idea out there, I recommend playing some indie games from Steam.
