Wolfenstein 3D vs. DOOM

I been thinking about this issue and come to this conclusion: Wolfenstein should in fact get the credit for the popularity of the FPS because I believe, and this is just an opinion, that wolfenstein itself had obtained enough popularity to jump start the FPS genre no matter what game came out next using the newer tek to create a better FPS exp. DOOM just happened to be that game. So give it the credit if u want but I believe my conclusion to be sound. Now i'm frekkin done talkin bout old fps games.

Doom did take the basic idea of wolfentsteins but Doom improved and created a newer better version for the new generation and so i feel like Doom deserved the credit they got even thou they stole the idea from wolfentstein

Being the first to do something, and revolutionalizing something are really two different things that I think alot of people in this thread keep mixing up. Stealing and improving are also two very different things, especially when it comes to something so creative as early game development.

I think the bottom line is Wolfenstein was the first in a long, long, LONG line of FPSs, and to that it has it's credit. Doom, however, revolutionalized the FPS, hence the reason it is constantly cited as the original FPS. In my humble opinion, at least =)
