OK so i go into borders and into the cafe where they sell there food and drinks. Im minding my own business studying and in the corner bothering nobody. Then a employee goes up to me and says. "sir you can not sit here. In order to sit you must buy something because these seats are for people that buy something to eat" that is friking bullcrap. i mean there is like no one in the cafe and its like 10am(time when the store just opens). So im like ok and 15 minties later the manager comes out and tells me if i dont buy anything that i have to leave. I mean what if im not hungary then. What if i was gonna buy something later. Borders has the worst customer service ever!!! theres no one in the information booth. There selling dvds for like 40 bucks! i would rather go to barnes and noble where they dont say anything if you sit at there table.

For a minute there I thought you were talking about the border between USA/Mexico or USA/Canada

From the employees perspective that does make sense for them to boot out anyone not buying food. They must have tables open for people buying food to camp and eat out. However, if there were not a lot of people in the cafe and there was plenty of seats open it the right thing to do would let the people stay if they had some purpose to do so.

I'm sure you could slap a lawsuit on them unless they have a sign that specifically says "Do not camp in cafe unless you buy food". You have the right to sit there especially since Borders isn't just some cafe but also a combo of things.

It could have been worse, I'm sure they would sink to a lower level and call the cops on you. They would give you a loitering ticket

Try going in there dressed as a cop I'm sure they won't say a word to you lol.

I really don't see why that happened. You were obviously just reading your paper, maybe they expected you to be drinking their coffee while you were doing that too lol. They obviously don't get many customers at their cafe and if they asked you to leave without any sign saying "restricted to paying customers only" then you can file a lawsuite and it can be an open and shut case.

Well if this is just a coffee shop than I don't see why you have to eat something. Whenever I see people at a coffee shop, they're usually there to socialize or go surfing the web. I can see why you were booted out if it was a real food place like Perkins or something.

I recommend their Javanilla shake if they serve it in your area. I sometimes drive the half-hour to Borders just for that shake, and if it's their policy then they won't be able to kick you out.

See if there was no one in the store it would make more sense financially to let you sit in there as it makes it look like the have customers.
And most people think that if a place has customers it must be good, so they then get more customers.
It just doesnt make sense to kick someone out of their otherwise empty store

Of course I never understood why there are cafes in book stores.
A bookstore is to purchase books, not drink a coffee and use it like a library.
That's one thing that really annoys me, I'll go to buy a book only to find someone else has read it, cracked the spine, bent the pages back

Well I think the café is there for customers who wish to buy any books they would mess up. Personally I enjoy reading my book while eating a Javanilla shake and an old-fashioned buttermilk doughnut... *drools*
