I was wondering if anyone has played Red Dead Redemption.
If you have what is it like?

I made this because im considering taking some money out of my "Get a car fund" to go buy a ps3 or 360 to aquire this game.

I asked a couple weeks ago about the same thing... I ended up getting the game mainly because everyone was rating it so highly. I actually pre-ordered and went to the midnight launch party at my local GameStop too!

I have to say to me its just "eh" or "ok" - the world is huge and the gameplay is fun, but my problem is I have no affinity for the world of the wild west that I lose interest quickly in the tasks at hand and usually just end up playing some of the gambling games at one of the local saloons in the game.

The gun play is actually one of the better part of the games and even though you are using old-time 6-shooter pistols & rifles, they are still really accurate and the game provides a auto-lock feature that was similar to GTAIV.

If you already owned a system than I would probably say go ahead and get it. But I would probably advise you against plotting down $350 bucks for a new system just to buy this game. However, if you are a fan of GTA series and really don't mind playing in the wild west and traveling on a horse in between each location than this game may be for you.

Happy to give you a bit more insight as I am on day 3 of playing the game.

From a guy that disliked GTA IV, I had a skeptical view on this game but however what I like is how the Euphoria engine has updated and the game looks visually stunning.

And there's no cellphone feature or characters annoying you, so that's already good in my book.

I haven't personally played it yet, and it looks like more of a rent than a buy (for me personally)

I'm sure I will like it when I rent it, and I will eventually get it, but I tend to wait until I can get games used for around $30 (because I'm a cheapskate. I can admit that haha)

The Wild West theme isn't something I particularly prefer, but the game style itself I like, so I will definitely be at least renting this game.

Cool I appreciate the info.
But I think I will buy a system just to play this game for 2 reasons

1. I need a newer system anyways, N64 is good but I need something new lol
2. From how you guys described it, it sounded like you enojoyed it but the whole wild west thing isnt your forte. But in my case I find the wild west era really cool, so I think Id really enjoy this.

It's an amazing game with a ton of replayability and things to do. Some things such as skinning animals are kind of gross though.

Yeah - don't let people get you down on the whole Wild West thing because they pull it off very well. I'm not giant into the genre and I really love it myself - the game is really, really worth it and the online portion is very well done at the same time.

I am getting it for my birthday along with 15 dollars for the modern warfare 2 map pack. I really want to get it because it seems it can be somewhat of a successor to GUN (6'th gen. wild west shooter). The problem with GUN was that after you complete the main story, there's nothing to do but go around and shoot people. I guess you could go and do some side missions but you can knock those out in an hour. It seems that Red Dead Redemption has more content associated with the game So I can play for hours on end. I also heard that you can team up with friends online and have some sort of a Mexican standoff before the real death-match starts Unlike Gta 4, you can also see the bullet wounds of the enemies you shoot. All in all, if you are into western games, this should be a good one, but then again, I have not played it yet so I don't know what it's really like. I'll update here when I get a chance to play it all the way through whether or not this would be a buy or a rental.
