hoguan : Actually, that just means you have an American accent. Technically, everyone has an accent... it just depends on what accent you have.
Mine is generally the "American" general accent, with a little bit of southern thrown in... we call it the Southern Maryland accent. Some of my family have more of a twang than I do, but for the most part it only shows up every now and then.

Trust me, unless you are a native of Germany, you're accent will sound fake to a German speaker. It is the hardest to imitate. I had a decent Austrian accent going for awhile, but now it's become more Russian.

I'm just happy that I don't talk like a Vally Girl (but I can). And yes, I know that people outside the state say like but the stereotype of the southern California accent is that we say it a LOT. There is a lot of surfer lingo, Spanish pronunciation of words, and other stuff that is hard to describe.

I was born in Texas and half of my family (famary) is from China, but I don't think that I have a recognizable accent. I may slip a y'all into the conversation every now and then (which is so much easier to say than you all), but I never find myself talking about ol (oil) rigs or drawling my vowels or anything like that. I also can pronounce my L's fine (fond, fond memories of "A Christmas Story" and "fa ra ra ra ra, fa ra ra ra" arise here) despite my Chinese heritage; that may have something to do with the fact that I can barely speak Chinese, my accent is that atrocious. I guess you could say I have some form of American accent, as everyone in China winces at my pronunciation of Chinese, meaning I have some accent, I just don't know what.
