Yes, not only have I heard of it, yet its one of my favorites. I don't know if I would call it a horror anime untill the last mabey.. 1 episode lol. Darker than all the other anime's I've seen, yet still funny.I give it the thumbs up. It happens to have the distinction of the only anime I've only actually boughten.

The main story is about Guts,gatts, or gatsu.(a few translations) Anyways he's an orphan living as a mercenary when he's taken in by a man named Griffith who's the leader of the band of the hawk. Griffiths only goal is to acquire a kingdom despite his peon status. Eventually the story evolves into much more and its very dark and gory.

Overall the manga is one of the best out there if you can get your hands on it, the anime can be watched first as it tells how Guts goes from a child to the Dark swords man. Thats only a small part of the story. (If im wrong in anyway anyone feel free to correct me)
