What do you think about actors under 18yrs in rated R movies? The reason why I ask is because there's movies like Role Models, Kick-Ass, and a whole bunch of others that
I wouldn't dare let my niece or nephew see. Because there's some bad stuff in those movies that I wouldn't want them to see. The reason why i'm asking is because I seen some actors in those movies that are as young as my nieces and nefews and I seen them do some things that I wouldn't dare let my nieces and nefews do or tell them about. The reason why I ask is do you think hollywood is theaching kids under 18yrs bad things?

This is not a new concept at all. Take Halloween, The Shining, or Pet Sematary for example, all of them have used kids in their movies and they all played really important roles in it. It has nothing to do with ratings, lots of stuff on tv is pretty vile and teaches kids bad stuff. Mostly sex, drugs, violence its all that is on tv So I would not blame R movies for it. I don't know how many 5 year olds watch R movies, but they can probably become more violent after watching an episode of COPS or some cartoon.

I agree with Jigzaw, what they don't see in the movie's they will see at home on TV, unless you completely shelter them which is a whole diffrent subject.

Now if the rules were gonna stick and such then I'd say they shouldn't be but in tbis day and age it's gonna happen, it's almost a staple in most movies weather pg or R for there to be children involved.

Besides, in some movies, it would be alittle strange to have a story with an all adult cast.

Interesting topic... Sadly, you actually NEED children to play those kind of roles sometimes. If they didn't, there's many movies that just wouldn't be the same.

I just went to the theater and saw the new Nightmare On Elm Street and there's a little girl that plays in it here and there. The movie sucked. The girls role wasn't that bad though. I've seen alot worse movies with children killing or getting killed. This girl was just like a ghost or something.

I've often wondered if younger kids actually understand the roles they are playing or if they're ignorant to it.

M!cH@3l 001 : I thought Kick Ass was PG-13, but onto the topic...
Underage actors have nothing to do with the films rating. Should a film have nothing but 18+ actors??? I think not. Child actors are doing a job just like adult ones. Children experience worse situations than what's in movies every day. movies are only imagination and should have no bearing on what happens in anyone's life.

here is the other thing you need to remember.... while filming the movie.... everything looks/is fake. The under 18 actors aren't watching the finished product (although they might be later) while they are filming... it's not like the are soaked in blood from beginning to end or anything. And what kid hasn't heard swearing or seen another bloody/violent movie. I don't see the point in protecting child actors from 18+ movies.

You also have to remember that movies with R ratings have been very non-violent, but very serious/heavy in content. So it's not just gory violence that causes an R rating.

I think the ratings system is garbage anyways. All kinds of bribes and scams have been involved with that stuff in the past, and maybe to this day. The ratings are meant to encourage the target audience to know they're supposed to watch this movie. I've seen R movies without gore or sex, and I've seen PG-13 movies with eff-bombs and rear nudity.

Actors are just playing the role their job calls for. Watching an adult act as a lost little kid would only make the movie seem stupid. In Elizabethan times, males played all female roles, but that didn't influence them to act more feminine (most of the time). Same goes for kids acting in R movies, if they do something inappropriate later in life, they were probably already predisposed to it. The Elizabethan thing was a terrible analogy, I'll admit, but I think it's kind of funny :3

I think it's okay as long as there not doing anything really bad like drugs or getting naked in the movie.

megarevolution1 : ...but you said you wouldn't allow it in an earlier post

I think that it is okay, I mean, it's not like all R movies with under 18 actors have them doing things they shouldn't be doing, sometimes they play an important role in a movie.

BTowns : I'm starting to see many R movies without gore or sex. Take Speed for example, it's rated R, but it only has cursing and something somewhat gore-ish, but you only see it for a split-second =/
