Sugar is the substance your body uses to fuel itself. Now things like proteins and carbohydrates need to be broken down to make sugars, so they take longer to give you the boost but are healthier for you. Regular sugar gives you energy quickly, but has no intrinsic health value. that is another reason why soda is so bad for you. Soda and many other things have patially hydronated corn syrup, which is extra-sweet syrup. It is actually a filler but since soda companies found out it is much cheaper to produce and is sweeter than regular sugar, they use it almost exclusively. Recent studies have released that the corn syrup actually triggers parts of your brain leading you to think you are hungrier than you actually are.

Big business has no part in anything positive for the consumer!

Well, according to generally-accepted science, eating sugar does give your body energy. But it really depends on the person whether or not their reaction is to become hyper.

From my experience, small children become hyper when they are fed and have calories to burn... Whether it's sweet food or not.

sugar is a complex carbohydrate, simple carbs like starch take a long time to take an effect; the only thing that really happens different with complex carbs is that it makes your body over produce insulin ( due to the spike cause by it processing so fast ) which isn't used.

As far as making you have extra energy it is a myth. It gives you about as much as eating any carb, it's just not as healthy. It is basically a myth that parents propagate. my bet is that it's from the people that only give kids candy on special occasions, and the kids are excited due to the event. Example:

"little Timmy was so hyper after all that birthday cake"- No he was excited cause its his birthday and he just got the new transformer.

To summarize: Sugar gives you energy but no more than other carbs, but simple carbs are better for you.
