I see on vizzed we have forums for both of these... which one do you think is better?

Well I love pokemon, so I can't be objective,lol.
So, I spend a lot of time on pokemon forum, I'm not a fun of Final Fantasy.

I've only played a bit of the first Final Fantasy, and it was only a few days ago, but I didn't really like it too much. My vote goes out to Pokemon.

Come on guys!! Final Fantasy!! Pokemon never really caught on for me after Gold/Silver... Then Final Fantasy and Pokemon are both technically RPGs, and if you were to compare, Final Fantasy overpowers it in many ways...
Story: Pokemon never really had a deep story, I guess I can't really argue this though because I haven't played the next two generations, but I'm guessing it's basically the same thing with Team Rocket/Galactic, and a kid having his little Pokemon get all the badges and beat the crap out of a worldwide "terrorist" organization... lol
On the other hand, Final Fantasy's story has almost always been interesting(save the first two or three).
Gameplay: While Pokemon's addicting, its battle system is really not as complex and sophisticated as Final Fantasy. The whole elemental system is cool, but it's like rock, paper, scissors where you really can't lose as long as you have the sufficient types against them.
Final Fantasy on the other hand has very interesting, fun and challenging battle systems starting with FFIV with the Active Time Battle system, and adds more flavor to the battles as you don't have all the time in the world to choose your moves. Plus Pokemon can be really easy to just spam powerful moves all the time,ESPECIALLY people with legendaries

Pokemon is the same story, over and over, and the only thing different between games is they draw more Pokemon so there's so many it's gross. Final fantasy has different story lines, different level up systems, special summons, and more. The final fantasy games have a lot of diversity and are usually really fun. Pokemon games are fun, but buy one and you've bought them all.

Final Fantasy. While Pokemon is fun to play (I spent hundred of hours playing and replaying the first couple of generations) Final Fantasy has more diversity and the storylines (which are almost non existent in the pokemon series) are interesting and complex. Not all the Final Fantasy's are good but chances are there is at least one in the series that you are going to like if you're into RPG's.

well considering pokemon is a strategy and FF is an epic rpg it depends on what type of game you like ... i cant' choose on them that's just uncalled for pokemon is great to get imba creatures and FF's are just a great story line every time

Well, even though I love both, I'd have to say that Pokemon is the better one. It was the first game that actually had me addicted to it, as the gameplay was so good. I also liked because of the storyline/plot. It had me really wanting to 'catch em all'.

They're both RPGs actually. I don't think you'd call pokemon "strategy"... well actually i guess you can, but then you'd have to call FF a strategy game too. The more earlier ones are similar to Pokemon, just with out all the Pokemon and being able to control more than one character in battle.

May I say both franchises are equally terrible?

I'd go on a tirade about how the first Final Fantasy game sucked and how the Pokemon franchise is awful, but who would want that?

Final Fantasy is so much better than Pokemon. Pokemon is probably the most effective marketing campaign of all time, so i respect them too. what better way to advertise a franchise to a bunch of kids than "got to catch 'em all." In the words of Guiness, "Brilliant"

my vote wud have to go to final fantasy, pokemon was cool at one time but again, it's the same thing over and over. final fanasy keeps ur interest a little more.

a pokemon the only final fantasy game i ever played is the kingdom hearts series that has cameos of different charecters from final fantasy

Final Fantasy may be good, but it doesn't hook me the same way Pokemon does. I dont' know why, maybe it's the diverse possibility of party members, maybe it's the multiplayer interaction, but I've always favored Pokemon... that, and I haven't played very many FF games. Also, Final Fantasy (at least the newer ones) is on a whole different spectrum of the RPG genre. Pokemon requires more team-building strategy, to the point where it's very different from the battling in FF (at least what I've seen, I might be wrong lol).

The problem with the question of which is better, Pokemon or Final Fantasy, is that Final Fantasy games span almost the whole spectrum of the RPG genre while Pokemon has basically been the same since it first came out. It's not really a fair comparison unless we take the Final Fantasy games that are most similar to Pokemon and singled them out. The Final Fantasy game that is closest to Pokemon, in my opinion, would have to be Final Fantasy V, because of it's job system, which is also in Final Fantasy III, Tactics, and X-2 (I probably left some out ). Think of the Job system as sort of like the different types of pokemon (ex water, fire, ghost etc). Each type has it's own set of moves while each job has it's own types of ability's. If any Pokemon fan is thinking of trying out one of the Final Fantasy games I recommend that you go with five. (Sorry about the long rant but I haven't slept since yesterday and I get kind of long winded when I'm tired )

Just because you didn't like the first Final Fantasy, it's still one of the first successful RPGs of all time. Plus the series gets better as it progresses, with some exceptions. If you've only played the first one i suggest you go and try the others before you just make a conclusion like that.

wow i like both pokemon and final fantasy but im gana vote final fantasy. it has a better story and cool characters.

they're honestly both good games in their own way but i like the levels of difference between story lines with each fianl fantasy. though i wasn't too keen about FF X or X-2 but the others were addicting to me lol

Now are you asking what game is better or in terms of what forum is better? Either way I like Final Fantasy better, it's more mature and just seems more deep then poke'mon. I also like a lot of Final Fantasies stories while Poke'mons is too bland for me.

I really could care less that its one of the most successful RPGS of all time. If I want an RPG like Final Fantasy I'll go play Ultima. I've played many of the FF games and I hated FF8, FF13, that crappy MMO based off it and a few more from the franchise. Just because you like FF doesn't mean I need to.
