Problem with loading/saving pokemon FIRE RED

So, i started a game on pokemon FIRE RED. and i played for about an hour then when it came time to save, i looked around some and decieded to just save it how you would in the gameboy game. and i just started the game and no saved game is there.

was there a different way i was spose to save the game?

* note this is fire red, not red version*

If it's on the GBA then there is no other way to save at the moment and judging by what you said about saving in-game then basically there is no sure way to save as of now. If I am wrong and that game isn't on the GBA and it's for the GBC then try double clicking the game-screen and you will see a save option listed, click save, and there you go. Then to load just repeat the process by hitting load instead of save.
