I recently played Koudelka, a PS1 game which is a mix of horror and turn based RPG. I'm someone who is big on RPGs, and although I wouldn't call myself a "horror fan", I can appreciate a good one. I realized while playing the game that although I've loosely followed both of these genres, I've never really seen them intermingle (besides in some indies here or there) until this game.

Although I think Koudelka is not really the most amazing turn based RPG ever (the gameplay is incredibly simple, to a fault), it's definitely one of the better horror games I've played in terms of setting and narrative. It kinda makes me wish that the RPG parts of it were more fleshed out because if so, it really likely would be up there in my favorite games list. I thought it was such a fascinating mix between the two, and the execution of the game's aesthetic was fantastic.

Have you ever played a game which mixes two (or more) genres you found to be unusual? Did you find that it worked well, or was it to the game's detriment?

Does Team Buddies count? A bunch of soldiers or whatever shaped like mighty beanz with real time strategy and brawler? Puzzle even trying to stack blocks to create recruits, weapons or even vehicles. I mean I feel like the mix of those two genres are uncommon
