Minecraft has had many updates over the years. I still can't believe we're in the 20s now for big version updates. I started playing the game during 1.3, so it still blows my mind when I look back at how the game used to be back in the day.

Many updates have gone by that I thought were mediocre or even bad, but a few have really stood out to me in a positive way.

One I'll name is 1.8, because it kind of became the fundamental version used for many servers and their mini-games, on top of many adventure maps to play alone or with friends. A lot of the modpacks were also built with 1.8 in mind.

I really enjoyed 1.13 as well. Swimming used to be one of the worst parts in the game, as you just slowly walked your way through the water. Getting stuck in an Ocean biome without a boat was basically the most annoying thing in the universe. The new swimming mechanics were surprisingly fast and fun, and it truly feels more immersive now. It's occasionally glitchy with putting you in and out of swim mode, but I'll take some glitches and suffocation damage if I can have swimming. It also made underwater caves interesting to explore with the new air mechanics. Drowning is finally a real threat in the game.

1.8 always will spring to mind as a favorite version but I don't know if it's one of my favorite updates like bunnies are cool and ocean monuments are cool I guess I'll never forget my first time getting jump scared by one but I do really like the diorite and andesite blocks but I think 1.7 with the new biomes it added did more.

I think my personal choice for favorite update is probably actually 1.16 The Nether update. I always found the Nether to be incredibly boring before they changed it and some of my adventures in the nether since the update has been some of my favorite more modern Minecraft memories.

Oh I forgot about the Nether one! I had so much fun exploring the new Nether biomes, and I think the Bastions are great additions. Those Piglin Brutes are actually terrifying even if you have full diamond.

Plus Netherite is cool, never thought we'd ever get something stronger than Diamond stuff.
