As you likely know, Amazon Prime has recently unveiled pics of the lead for their new Tomb Raider series; it's Sophie Turner.

And to no one's surprise, a tremendous amount of feedback has been negative, saying she doesn't look the part, or is "too skinny".

Really?! She looks similar to some of the older designs for the character:

I know no one can compare to Angelina Joli, but Sophie still looks the part. Furthermore, people are obsessing over her weight and breast size. In reality, she's EXTREMELY fit (look at her arms and abs), as Lara should be.

It's part of a very unfortunate trend where people love to hate things, and it seems even more common when people can comment of someone's body.

Personally, I think she looks the part; time will tell if she can act the part.

Yeah, she looks like a pretty spitting image of the original Lara design. I guess some people were expecting something more reminiscent of the modern Tomb Raider games, or Angelina Jolie like you said? Either way, I guess we'll see what the series ends up being like. Hopefully, it'll turn out well - I don't want to see another poorly thought out cash grab to add to the pile of video-game-to-movie adaptations.

Hell, she's a much better choice than Alicia Vikander. I mean, she acts very good and I've loved her performances, but she's no action heroine and isn't suited to roles like this one, which is partly why that last Tomb Raider movie wasn't precisely a major hit.

Sophie Turner is a much better choice. Her portrayal of Jean Grey in the new generation of X-Men was amazing, she can definitely handle this. And yeah, just like you say, she's fit and muscular enough for all the required action, just like Angelina Jolie was in her day (though fitness has evolved A LOT since then).

Hating due to body aesthetics has been a trend for way too long now. I sincerely hope Sophie stays away from the bad influence of social media and let her acting do the talking when the series airs. And everyone saying she's not a good pick because of trivial things like weight or breast size can go die in a fire, society would be a much better thing without them.

I've never heard of who Sophie Turner is nor this Tomb Raider controversy, but I've always hated the mentality of "If it's not this actor/actress what's the point". Even worse when that hate is directed towards the person who did nothing wrong except apparently accepting a role they might genuinely be excited for. What horror!

Of course people will have preferences and might prefer a different person, but I think it's important to give them a chance. Some of the best acting jobs have come from actors/actresses who might not have been the expected or wanted pick by the general public before release.

A personal one for me was the Witcher series on Netflix. Not going into how that went downhill, but I was genuinely excited for it when it first came out as I love the lore of that franchise. I saw Henry Cavill cast for it and had never heard of the guy beforehand, so I was a bit scared when I heard he was the Superman actor as I wasn't sure if something like this was up his alley, and I really wanted this project to be great.
Wouldn't you know it, the guy is actually a giant nerd and loves the franchise too. You can tell in the way he played Geralt that the role was made for him. Turns out that he even argued with production to be more faithful to the source material. One of my favorite actors now lol
